About the Anthro JV:

The Anthro joint venture between Egis and VVB Engineering will provide comprehensive turn-key services for London’s state-of-the-art HS2 gateway station at Old Oak Common. We have been awarded a multi-year contract to deliver MEPHFC (Mechanical, Electrical Public Health, Fire and Communications) systems works

Role Overview:

VVB are looking for a Principal Electrical Engineer, to be nominated and carry out the Network Rail Contractors Engineering Manager (CEM) role on the Old Oak Common project, covering the full Anthro scope of Mechanical, Electrical, Public Health, Fire detection/suppression and Communications.

Key Responsibilities:

Be nominated and carry out the NR 02009 duties of the Contractors Engineering Manager (CEM) for the whole of the Old Oak Common MEPHFC scope. Assessing and Mentoring CRE’s in all aspects of applicable Network Rail standards including Engineering Management for Projects NR/L2/INI/02009.Using initiative and confidence to put forward solutions based on sound engineering principles.Challenging the brief, enabling innovative development of unambiguous engineering solutions from feasibility through to detailed designDesign and checking of engineering solutionsProduction and/or review of clear, consistent, referenced calculations, reports and sketches to current CoP and StandardsClear communication of design philosophy and requirements with other team membersAppreciation of the team's financial, quality and programme targetsPromoting safe working practices in all areasManagement of staff and projectsProvide guidance on design and engineering matters to all stakeholders including the leadership teamsManage Contractors Responsible Engineers (CRE's) within the businessAct as the company's representative at interdisciplinary reviews.Ensure the communication and implementation of engineering requirements with respect to construction works undertaken by the Company and its SubcontractorsTrack the progress and ensure the high standard of designs and engineering management across the projectEnsure the fitness and use of Inspection and Test Plans across the companyCoach & develop future CEM's and CRE's within the business Undertaking design review in line with current standards and to ensure buildability and constructability. Identify any weakness or errors in the design that could jeopardise the functionality. Ensure HSE best practices are always followed. Ensure design risk assessment is compliant with installation parameters.Participate in, and where required chair, HazID, HazOP and HazCON’s as required by the client.Provide engineered solutions to key project problems to satisfy clients expectations, project restrictions and budget considerations.Provide Engineering support and technical expertise to the various sectors and projects.Management of all associated design registers, meeting minutes, drawing registers etc. as appropriate inline VVB and project requirements. Ensure all formal communication is undertaken and managed (RFI, TQ, EWN, MAR, TD etc).Direct liaison with CAD/BIM team to ensure correct drawing modelling to BIM or other standards. Review drawings for clash detection and associated interface problems.Attend, and participate in interdisciplinary design reviews and checks (IDR/IDC).Development of scope documents for tenders and procurement processes.Liaison with manufacturers to determine product suitability, in partnership with procurement.Direct liaison with installation teams to ensure design suitability, works methodology and solve key installation issues/constructability.Working with the commercial department to track technical or design change and variances.Working with the planning department to plan design, installation and T&C works. Provision of accurate assessment on forecast works to complete and provide suitable readjustments to ensure project programme is maintained.Management of subcontractor works as appropriate including assisting commercial department in valuation and contract support.Ensure design and works comply with VVB and client quality management systemsKeep up to date with all engineering, construction and relevant legislation, law, standards and best practice.

Person Specification:
Essential:

Experience within construction industry, in particular the design and installation of electrical and/or mechanical systems, as used with the Building Services elements or rail sector projects.Knowledge of BIM and design modelling standards and all other associated standards and legislation. Knowledge of design processes and associated complianceAdvanced MS Office skills including ExcelWorking knowledge of the following typical systems:MechanicalElectricalPublic HealthFire Detection & SuppressionCommunicationsKnowledge of implications of offsite construction to design.Sustainability awareness

Qualifications:
Essential:

Degree in Engineering Engineering Council Registration as Chartered Engineer Registered member of IMechE, IET, CIBSE or other recognised Engineering Council InstitutionsSMSTSCSCS Card – AQP or PQP minFull UK drivers license

Desired:

Masters Degree in Engineering Project management qualification, APM, PRINCE 2 or equivalentFormal HSE training, NEBOSH Construction CertificateDSEAR & ATEX (CompEX) formal training

Experience:
Essential:

Previously acted as a Network Rail signed off CEM with experience of the NR 02009 standard including assessing CRE applications.Experience of renewal or new build projects in the civil rail environment.
Worked within the UK Rail sector for a significant part of their career and will have good knowledge of CDM regulations, Network Rail Group and line standards.Experienced in performing CAT I and CAT II design reviews.Seven years’ experience within a similar Engineering positionPreviously worked within the infrastructure/construction environment (utilities/civils etc) Previous experience within an M&E ContractorDesign
