Purpose of the Role:
The Principal Civil/Structural Designer is responsible for leading and coordinating structural design activities to ensure the delivery of accurate, high-quality drawings, 3D models, and related design outputs in line with project, client, and regulatory requirements. The role provides technical direction, guidance, and mentoring to civil/structural designers, ensuring compliance with company procedures, industry standards, and constructability principles. In addition to preparing and reviewing complex design deliverables, the Principal Designer collaborates closely with engineers, other design disciplines, and project stakeholders to resolve design challenges, optimize solutions, and support project execution. The position also plays a key role in planning design resources, ensuring consistency and quality across deliverables, and contributing to continuous improvement in civil/structural design practices.
Key Responsibilities:
Lead the civil/structural design team in delivering high-quality, code-compliant solutions.
Oversee the development of detailed drawings, 3D models, and design deliverables and ensuring alignment with project schedules, budget and technical requirements to completion.
Ensure compliance with project specifications and international standards and regulations.
Collaborate with engineers, project managers, and clients to meet project goals
Provide technical guidance and promote best practices in design execution.
Able to assist and troubleshoot issues with systems, processes and tools, and its possible enhancements.
Provide leadership, guidance, and mentorship to engineers and designers.
Occasional site visits.
Qualifications / Skill Set:
Certificate, Diploma or Degree in Civil/Structural Engineering or Drafting
15+ years of experience in civil/structural design, with 3+ years in a lead role
Expertise in buildings, structural, infrastructure and foundation design
Conversant with relevant codes and specifications, and drafting standards.
Familiarity with architectural work for plant buildings.
Knowledge of plant requirements.
Excellent communication and leadership skills
Advance proficiency in 3D model software e.g. SP3D, TEKLA
