**A Day in the Life**
Medtronic, a leading global company in the MedTech domain, is hiring a Principal Automation Engineer responsible for focusing on the transformation of our manufacturing processes through the implementation of best-in-class automated equipment within our Automation Engineering group in Medtronic.
In the role, you will contribute to leading the development of highly complex automated equipment for use in the manufacture of medical devices and also influence automation projects globally by defining automation standards and contributing to our Automation Community of Practice and Automation Center of Excellence
**Responsibilities may include the following and other duties may be assigned:**
+ Lead, participate in all areas of new equipment development including the following: Initial Feasibility, Proof of Concept, Proof of Principle, Procurement, Mechanical/Electrical/Pneumatic/Software Design, Technology development & advancement, Vendor management & Project management.
+ Develop, apply CAD modelling, 3D printing, Augmented reality, simulated capacity planning and other computer aided design (CAD) software engineering methods, theories and research techniques in the investigation and solution of technical problems to develop best in class equipment for the manufacture of our medical device product ranges.
+ Lead, support teams driving technology process innovation with emphasis on improving quality, reducing cost, improving reliability, and developing state of the art automated and semi-automated systems, eventually assessing architecture and hardware limitations in the preparation of design specifications, analyses, and recommendations in the planning of technical projects.
+ Collaborate with cross functional & cross site teams to define, execute, and deliver on new equipment development requirements, support process development, characterization, and validation activities to support new equipment introduction.
+ Specify materials, equipment and supplies required for completion of projects and may evaluate vendor capabilities to provide required products or services.
+ Participate in our Automation Community of Practice to share best practice and create new knowledge to advance the Automation community in Medtronic, while also supporting the development of Automation standards in Medtronic globally.
**Required knowledge and experience**
+ Master’s degree in Engineering/Science or a related discipline, along with minimum of 5/7 years of relevant experience working with several multi-national automation vendors and best in class automated process technology within a manufacturing environment.
+ Project manager experience with a proven track record in delivering innovative equipment designs on time and on budget, preferably with a PM qualification.
+ Experience in specifying and validating vision systems, such as detection, measurement, OCR, OCV, along with expertise in leading the full life cycle of introducing automated equipment, from concept generation to commissioning & debug, with experience in feasibility and design stages
+ Excellent communication skills aimed at technical knowledge, training delivery, as well as effective communication with team members and management within a cross functional environment.
+ Problem solving attitude aimed at managing complex processes with clear strategy, plan management
+ Fluency in English and French
