We’re seeking a natural storyteller and connector to join the Card Communications team who will support the development and implementation of communications strategies on behalf of the Executive Communications team. Through a multi-channel approach, you’ll inform and engage associates across the organization and help them stay connected to our business priorities. You will dig deep into our business strategy to build out messaging that connects our associates to their role in driving it, proactively fuel our communication team’s editorial calendar with engaging collateral of mass relevance, and measure your performance and impact through analysis of communications metrics.
We’re also looking for fresh ideas on how to enhance connective storytelling across the Card organization that promotes associate engagement and drives value for the business. You will be responsible for evaluating opportunities, driving end-to-end communications projects and campaigns, and preparing content for internal audiences. You should be knowledgeable in providing communications counsel that is backed by channel metrics and associate feedback, comfortable and well-versed in speaking to leadership teams, and willing to partner with HR, chiefs of staff, and other stakeholders to most effectively drive communications. Our Executive Communicators to support their communications strategies for the Card Leadership Team, building in your own enhancements and amplifying the stories you’ll capture and share to even greater levels across Capital One
Our Creative & Design team to help elevate our stories and campaigns through digital and multimedia platforms
Numerous Card stakeholder teams including Chiefs of Staff, HR and others to better understand the communication needs of our associates so that you can curate the most appropriate content and stories for them
You will have the opportunity to frequently see your work showcased to an internal audience of more than 15,000 associates while working side-by-side with smart, talented people who will challenge you to grow and excel.
RESPONSIBILITIES
Build and implement communications campaigns and strategies that connect our associates to the future of Card
Provide end-to-end management of events from ideation through production, including executive meetings, virtual town halls, speaking engagements and special events.
Work side-by-side with Executive Communicators to deliver necessary support, giving them leverage and providing you the opportunity to drive transformational results
Partner with Chief of Staff, HR, local teams, and others to drive a monthly process for collecting records, milestones and accomplishments across the business.
Draft communications, news stories and other communications to support the Card Leadership Team
Determine the most appropriate storytelling medium for stories and then supporting their creation through to publishing
Plan and prepare effective and engaging internal communications that educate, inform, connect with and inspire leaders and associates
Evaluate performance of communications based on metrics and other leading key performance indicators; recommend refinements to communications strategies, messaging and feedback mechanisms, as needed
REQUIREMENTS
Outstanding communication and presentation skills, both written and verbal
Experience with project and/or process management
Strong writing and story-telling skills with sound editorial judgment
The ability to distill complex content into clear, concise and engaging communications
Proficient at creating communication cascades within matrixed organizations
Excellent influencing and negotiation skills
Outstanding time management and organizational skills, with an ability to consistently execute multiple, and sometimes competing, activities and complex projects to high quality conclusion, on-time, and within budget
A track record of consistently acting with urgency as needed
Strong customer-orientation and proven track record of collaborative work relationships
BASIC QUALIFICATIONS
Bachelor’s Degree or military experience
At least 3 years of experience as a communications specialist or journalist
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
Bachelor of Arts in Communications, Marketing, English or Journalism
4+ years of experience as a communications specialist

The minimum and maximum full-time annual salaries for this role are listed below, by location. Please note that this salary information is solely for candidates hired to perform work within one of these locations, and refers to the amount Capital One is willing to pay at the time of this posting. Salaries for part-time roles will be prorated based upon the agreed upon number of hours to be regularly worked.
McLean, VA: $102,700 - $117,200 for Principal Communications Assoc
Candidates hired to work in other locations will be subject to the pay range associated with that location, and the actual annualized salary amount offered to any candidate at the time of hire will be reflected solely in the candidate’s offer letter.
This role is also eligible to earn performance based incentive compensation, which may include cash bonus(es) and/or long term incentives (LTI).
