10The Role: Principal Market Analyst – Hydrogen
S&P Global Energy is currently looking to recruit a hydrogen market analyst based in Tokyo, Japan to improve our coverage of the clean hydrogen market, including data, analytics, and insights. The successful candidate will be keen to work as part of a global team, building on foundational knowledge of the cleantech and renewable energy industries and further developing analytical, modeling, and communication skills.
The Team: This role will support a successful global Hydrogen Market Research team with members located across Asia, Europe, and the Americas.
The Impact: The successful candidate will be a key contributor to the global Clean Energy Technology team, providing customers with high quality models and reports to support critical business decisions. The candidate will focus on the rapidly growing global clean hydrogen market, developing deep expertise on public policy, regulations, technology trends, the competitive landscape, and business models. They will apply that knowledge to analytics and research initiatives and communicate key messages to customers ranging from global energy giants to innovative technology start-ups through cost models, papers, and presentations.

This role will also interface with and learn from S&P Global Energy experts across energy and commodity markets, including oil, natural gas, LNG, metals, power, renewables, biofuels, fertilizers, and chemicals.
What We’re Looking For: The ideal candidate will have established knowledge of and a keen interest in the renewable energy sector, especially clean hydrogen and related public policy. Prior experience of working in a research analyst role and knowledge of Japanese energy policy is ideal. Japanese and English language skills are also required.
Basic Required Qualifications:
5 or more years of experience in an industry related to hydrogen, low-carbon hydrogen, or water electrolysis, including: chemicals, fertilizer, oil & gas, electric power, or renewables (wind, solar, or batteries)Understanding of the policy and regulatory factors influencing energy and chemicals markets, especially the hydrogen policies of countries in the Asia-Pacific regionStrong analytical skills, including proficiency with Excel and knowledge of database and AI toolsUnderstanding of cost modeling techniques and best practices, including levelized production costs and other financing modeling methodologiesExcellent communication skills, including both written reports and oral presentationsAbility to work across multidisciplinary teams and effective integrate team feedbackAbility to communicate in both Japanese (fluent) and English (proficient or better)The following skills will also be valuable in this role:
Familiarity with low-carbon energy technologies and global energy supply chainsKnowledge of the water electrolyzer supply chain, including major players, components, and manufacturingAbility to work in a diverse, global teamResponsibilities:
Manage and analyze market data to track and identify trends, policies, stakeholders, projects, and technology developments in the water electrolyzer and clean hydrogen marketsReview and analyze government policies and regulations to assess and report on the effects on hydrogen market function and developmentCreate high quality market reports analyzing the status and outlook for hydrogen in Japan, Asia, and the rest of the worldWork with both a global team and local colleagues across markets and commodities to co-ordinate viewpoints and align data and forecastsDevelop excellent relationships with companies to better understand their perspectives, views, opinions and needs and incorporate into S&P Global Energy’s researchSupport client requests by providing answers to questions about research findings.Provide thought leadership through reports and presentations, both in private briefings and at professional conferencesGrade/Level (relevant for internal applicants only): 10
