Job Description SummaryWe are seeking a highly accomplished Principal AI Software Engineer who has mastered AI-augmented development and can drive technical excellence across our organization. This senior leadership role requires someone who combines exceptional technical depth with strategic thinking, leading the development of complex AI-native applications while setting technical direction and mentoring engineering teams. You'll be responsible for architecting enterprise-scale systems, driving cross-team technical initiatives, and establishing the standards that define how our organization builds AI-powered software.

The ideal candidate will have 10+ years of professional software development experience with proven expertise in designing and shipping large-scale production applications that incorporate LLMs and AI services. This is a Principal-level position requiring strong technical leadership, systems thinking, and the ability to influence technical decisions across multiple teams and product areas.

As a Principal AI Software Engineer, you will drive technical strategy and excellence across multiple initiatives while leading complex AI system development.

Strategic Technical Leadership:

Define and drive technical vision and architecture for AI-native applications across multiple product areasAct as an enabler for successful execution of identified projectsLead cross-functional technical initiatives, collaborating with engineering leadership, product management, and data science teamsEstablish technical standards, design patterns, and best practices for AI-augmented development across the organizationDrive technical decision-making for complex systems that span multiple teams and productsMake decisions with confidence when problems or solutions are not well definedManage risk and uncertainty for self and team within a dynamic priority-setting environmentContribute as a thought leader within the team, and help to refine current state as well as future state plans and product roadmaps

Advanced AI Systems Architecture:

Design and architect enterprise-scale full stack applications with sophisticated AI integrations across natural language processing, computer vision, and predictive analyticsLead the development of complex, multi-tenant AI systems serving millions of users with high availability and performance requirementsArchitect advanced RAG (Retrieval-Augmented Generation) systems, agentic workflows, and autonomous AI architecturesDesign cost-efficient, scalable LLM integration strategies across multiple providers with advanced optimization and failover mechanismsEstablish frameworks for AI model evaluation, A/B testing, and performance optimization at enterprise scale

Cross-Team Technical Influence:

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS

Master’s Degree in Electrical, Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Robotics or related field10+ years of non-internship professional software development experience12+ years of programming using JavaScript/TypeScript and multiple backend languages (Python preferred, Node.js, Java, or Go)6+ years of experience with modern front-end frameworks (React, Vue, or Angular) and advanced state management patternsProven track record designing and shipping complex production applications that incorporate LLMs or AI services at enterprise scale (1M+ users)Advanced expertise in prompt engineering, model optimization, and deep understanding of AI system limitations and capabilitiesDemonstrated experience with agentic workflows and autonomous AI system architecturesExtensive experience leading technical teams, driving cross-team initiatives, and providing technical mentorshipExpert-level experience with cloud platforms (AWS, GCP, or Azure) and advanced containerization (EKS), orchestration, and infrastructure as code (GitOps)Strong background in system design, scalability, and performance optimization for high-traffic applicationsMust be willing to work out of an office located in Niskayuna, NY.Legal authorization to work in the U.S. is required. The salary range for this position is $200,000 - $300,000 USD, annually. The specific salary offered to a candidate may be influenced by a variety of factors including the candidate’s experience, their education, and the work location. This position is also eligible for a performance bonus. This position will remain posted until at least October 5th, 2025.
