Principal Accountant - Mergers & Acquisitions

Job Description:

This position requires office presence of a minimum of 5 days per week and is only located in the location(s) posted. No relocation is offered.

We are seeking a highly skilled and motivated Principal Accountant with specialized expertise in mergers and acquisitions (M&A) accounting. The successful candidate will play a pivotal role in managing complex business combination transactions and ensuring accurate financial reporting throughout the M&A lifecycle. This position requires a strong ability to collaborate across multiple organizations and business units, providing critical guidance and support during key strategic initiatives.

What you’ll do

Typical tasks may include, but are not limited to, the following:
Lead the accounting and financial reporting for mergers, acquisitions, divestitures, and other significant business transactions.

Conduct technical research and provide detailed analysis on business combinations in accordance with U.S. GAAP and relevant accounting standards.

Coordinate due diligence activities, including review of target company financials and assessment of acquisition-related risks and opportunities.

Prepare and review purchase accounting entries, including the valuation and allocation of acquired assets and liabilities.

Work closely with cross-functional teams, including Corporate Development, Legal, Tax, and Integration, to ensure seamless execution of M&A transactions.

Develop and maintain accounting policies and procedures related to business combinations and other complex transactions.

Provide training and mentorship to accounting staff on M&A accounting topics and best practices.

Support external audit processes relating to M&A activities and ensure compliance with regulatory requirements.

What you’ll need

Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field

Certified Public Accountant (CPA) designation is required.

Minimum of 8 years of progressive accounting experience, with at least 3 years focused on mergers and acquisitions or business combinations.

Demonstrated expertise in U.S. GAAP, particularly in business combinations (ASC 805) and related topics.

Strong analytical, problem-solving, and organizational skills with meticulous attention to detail.

Exceptional communication skills and ability to work effectively across multiple teams and organizational boundaries.

Proven track record of managing complex projects and meeting tight deadlines in a fast-paced environment.

Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Excel and experience with major ERP systems.

Education/Experience: Bachelor’s degree (BS/BA) desired. 7+ years of related experience. Certification is required in some areas.

Our Principal Accountant - Mergers & Acquisition managers, earn between $130,700 - $196,100. Not to mention all the other amazing rewards that working at AT&T offers. Individual starting salary within this range may depend on geography, experience, expertise, and education/training.
