Job Summary

As the DB Security Tech Lead in the Data Foundations Team, you’ll lead initiatives to establish and enhance data governance practices across Walmart’s diverse data systems. Your focus will be on implementing robust audit logging, ensuring secure and compliant access to databases, and enabling fine-grained data access controls for both relational and non-relational environments. You will set the long-term vision for database security, assess existing architectures, and drive the team towards industry-leading standards in data protection and compliance.

About the team

The Data Foundations Team is part of the Global Technology Platform at Walmart. The team powers the entire data specific needs for various organisations within Walmart, including relational data, non-relational data, data-in-motion etc. The team powers more than 20,000 databases of all kinds (SQL, NoSQL), handles tens of Petabytes of data and thousands of applications within Walmart. These systems run on a mix private cloud and different public clouds.

What You’ll Do

Provide technical leadership to design and develop secure platforms for Walmart’s teams, ensuring best-in-class data governance and security practices.Lead projects to implement audit logging, secure access mechanisms, and fine-grained data access controls across all database types.Foster a culture of innovation, automation, and proactive risk management within the team.Collaborate efficiently with cross-functional teams, including compliance, legal, and engineering, to achieve shared security and governance goals.Mentor junior engineers to improve their technical skills, with a focus on security and governance best practices.Lead this change to impact 20,000+ data stores affecting tens of petabytes of data

What You’ll bring

You have strong technical skills and experience operating secure data platforms at massive scale.You have built or understand the process of building self-serving platforms with integrated security and governance controls.You have excellent technical communication skills (written and verbal), especially in articulating security requirements and solutions.You are self-driven and motivated, able to tackle ambiguous security challenges and achieve clarity.You are comfortable in using AI in your day to day life.Optional: Working knowledge of public clouds (Azure, GCP, AWS) and their security models.

Minimum Qualifications...
