At Raytheon, the foundation of everything we do is rooted in our values and a higher calling – to help our nation and allies defend freedoms and deter aggression. We bring the strength of more than 100 years of experience and renowned engineering expertise to meet the needs of today’s mission and stay ahead of tomorrow’s threat. Our team solves tough, meaningful problems that create a safer, more secure world.

The Air Launched Effectors Department is searching for a full time Principal Mechanical Engineer to assist and/or lead a multi-discipline team working on the design, development and/or production support of products and subsystems, for the purpose of giving the Marines and our allies an unmatched advantage across every mission phase. From long-range surveillance sensors to command and control, to advanced air and ground effectors, we provide the technology required to keep the air domain secure.

The Principal Mechanical Engineer will conduct design, integration, testing and/or production support of mechanical-focused hardware using computer-aided design, mechanical analyses, and consistent coordination and communication across teams to ensure success. This role will also include leading teams in the completion of above tasks.

The primary work location will be on-site at the Raytheon Tucson office. Some travel may be required to meet and work with vendors and to support testing and other activities as needed.

What You Will Do:

Perform mechanical design, development, and documentation of components, subassemblies, and major end items for defense system equipment in accordance with system requirements.

Develop solutions to a wide range of technical problems related to the design, manufacture, integration, and production of various mechanical subsystems, including support in the engineering lab and the factory floor both at Raytheon and at suppliers.

Contribute to first article inspections, work instruction reviews, material dispositions, and root cause investigations to production issues. Decisions are data driven and require preparing technical justification analysis reports and presenting to a variety of Engineering Review Boards.

Work with multi-disciplinary engineers to propose, design, develop, integrate, and test hardware within the Advanced Airframes mechanical design department.

Contribute to one or more of our contract-funded and independent research efforts, each of which is at a different phase of development (proposal, design, integration/test, and production). Engineers are generally assigned to one effort at a time but may work multiple efforts over the course of several years.

Communicate with cross-disciplined engineering team members and suppliers to analyze, model, and document the design technical data package (TDP) and its capabilities and compliance to requirements.

Work under limited supervision and act as the responsible engineer often in a project management role over entire subsystems within an effort. This often requires the ability to direct, delegate and review the work of others.
