Scope of Position Design of optical modules for performance and manufacturability for use in semiconductor manufacturing inspection machines. Design of assembly processes for such optical modules. Initial focus on reflective modules for extreme UV (EUV) based semiconductor manufacturing. Day-to-Day Responsibilities Receiving and analyzing customer requirement and converting into module level performance requirements. Reducing module performance requirements to nominal free space designs. Assessing tolerances of free space designs and developing mounting and frame system to realize nominal designs. Working with optical fabrication (OpFab) and coating teams to ensure consistent and manufacturable designs from lens/mirror blanks to modules. Working with customers to iterate designs based on evaluations, testing, and other feedback. Working with Corning and customer teams to manage design and scale-up processes to support performance, timeline, and cost targets. Understanding and adopting industry best practices as appropriate and developing internal capabilities to sustain technology leadership. Constructively engage colleagues in adjacent tech areas, and across S&T from research to engineering. Constructively engage colleagues in different business functions such as commercial, legal, manufacturing, and finance. Document work in invention disclosures, internal technical reports, project planning/tracking systems, and regular reporting templates. Communicate results clearly and appropriately to technical colleagues, non-technical colleagues, technicians, managers, and senior leaders. Experiences/Education - Required B.S. required, M.S., Ph.D. preferred. Degree concentration in mechanical engineering, optics, or physics preferred. Minimum of 5 years of experience with design for performance and manufacturability of high-precision optical objectives or similar modules/systems. 10% - 25% travel. Domestic travel primarily to Corning, NY and Keene, NH. Some international travel is possible for conferences, trade shows, & customer meetings. Expertise in precision engineering principles as exemplified by experience designing high precision optical modules operating in UV wavelengths. Deep knowledge of optics concepts & design methodology. Hands on experience with assembly of optical modules. Demonstrated ability to quantify the cost, schedule, and performance benefits of new processes and develop initial process robustness estimates. Experience with finite element analysis (FEA) modeling of components and structures. Experiences/Education - Desired Experience in semiconductor manufacturing or equipment industry Experience working in the EUV or X-ray wavelength ranges. Experience working in a cleanroom environment Design of products & processes for operations in cleanroom and vacuum environments. Basic understanding of optical fabrication design and processes and optical coatings. Use of active elements (such as piezoelectric actuators) and closed loop control of such elements in opto-mechanical systems. Demonstrated ability to drive execution of high-precision optical module assemblies from design to final validation of process capability to meet requirements within cost and schedule.
