General Description

The Pre-Fab Associate performs various general labor duties, primarily focusing on preparation of raw materials, ensuring they are accurately cut and cleaned for fabrication in accordance with drawings and blueprints. This position also assists with machinery such as supplying or holding materials or tools, and cleaning work area and equipment.

Essential Job Functions and Responsibilities

Pre-Fab Associate I – This is the entry level. The employee requires higher levels of training and supervision to perform to manager expectations. Employees at this level have minimum knowledge of Hand tools, power tools, tape measures, basic safety practices and time management.Pre-Fab Associate II – This is the intermediate level. The employee performs a full range of job functions, requiring minimal supervision from leads and managers.Pre-Fab Associate III – This is the experienced level. The employee performs a full range of job functions and uses independent judgement in making decisions where alternatives are determined by established procedures, methods, and practices. This level employee requires no supervision to complete all duties to manager expectations. Employees at this level should understand all department procedures and processes, all machines in department and be able to instruct subordinates.Pre-Fab Associate IV – This is the advanced level. The employee functions as Pre-Fab Lead, overseeing training and evaluating the work of lower-level Pre-Fab Associates and communicates the department needs to management. Employees at this level should understand workflow and scheduling needs of the shop as well as inventory control for the department.

Load and unload items from machines, conveyors, and conveyances.Operate machinery used in the production process or assist machine operators.Place products in equipment or on work surfaces for further processing, inspecting, or wrapping.Examine products to verify conformance to quality standards.Start machines or equipment to begin production processes.Observe equipment operations so that malfunctions can be detected and notify operators of any malfunctions.Remove products, machine attachments, or waste material from machines.Lift raw materials, finished products, and packed items, manually or using hoists.Transfer finished products, raw materials, tools, or equipment between storage and work areas of plants and warehouses, by hand or using hand trucks or powered lift trucks.Pack and store materials and products.Help Operators, Welders and other co-workers with supplying or holding materials or tools, or cleaning work areas and equipment.Count finished products to determine if product orders are complete.Measure amounts of products, lengths of extruded articles, or weights of filled containers to ensure conformance to specifications.Separate products according to weight, grade, size, or composition of materials used to produce them.Turn valves to regulate flow of liquids or air, to reverse machines, to start pumps, or to regulate equipment.Read and interpret drawings and blueprints.

Education, Work Experience, Skill Requirements & Certifications:

Minimum Education (or substitute experience) required:

High School Graduate or GED equivalent/Some college preferred.

Minimum Experience required:

Minimum 2+ years of relevant Warehouse or Production experience. ERP experience a plus.Experience in working with cryogenic equipment and/or hoses, valves and piping a plus.Forklift experience is a plus

Skills Required:

Ability to multi-task in a fast-paced warehouse environmentMust have excellent organizational skills and be detail oriented.  Ability to handle several projects simultaneously, prioritize work and handle last minute demands appropriately. Proven success with working in a team environment.Ability to manage multiple tasks simultaneously without constant supervision.Good communication, written and grammatical skills.  Customer service oriented.Entry level skills in Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook and in general data entry.Physically able to push/pull/lift/carry supplies and various works in progress of at least 50 poundsPhysically able to bend/kneel/walk/stand, in tandem with cart, step stools or rolling ladders, to access supplies and various works in progress or other materials as needed in storage rooms or production areasAble to work on foot for extended periods of time

Minimum License, Certifications & Affiliations/Memberships and CEU’s

Valid California driver’s license and an insured vehicle in good working order.

Special Requirement:

May be required to work weekends and holidays as business necessitates; schedules will be determined by management with at least 48 hours advance notice.

Working in the shop, the following conditions may apply:

Includes exposure to sounds and noise levels that are distracting or uncomfortable.Requires working in very hot (above 90 F degrees) or very cold (below 32 F degrees) temperatures.
