Air Products and Chemicals, Inc. a Fortune 500 manufacturer of industrial gases and chemicals, is seeking an experienced Instrument Technician for its California region. This position is responsible for performing and/or supervising the inspection, repair, installation and modification of process controls, safety devices, analyzers, PLC’s, field instrumentation and process monitoring equipment in Air Products operated plants. Instrument Technicians are also responsible for commissioning of new plants in addition to troubleshooting, repair, and calibration of plant instrumentation and controls. This position would primarily provide support for production facilities located in the Southern California and Martinez area, but on occasion duties could include other areas within the United States.  

Responsibilities: 

Technicians must be familiar with all equipment in plants served. A sampling of these devices includes transmitters, switches, analyzers, programmable controllers, proximity devices, level control systems, control valves, personnel safety systems, pay meter systems, and others. Within each category are a variety of pneumatic and electronic devices. 

Technicians are also responsible for troubleshooting and working with Process Controls Engineering Support to maintain distributed control systems. This is a most rapidly changing technical area and requires a high level of technical training. 

Prepare and provide technical reports and enter information into SAP to provide accurate documentation and information for equipment. 

Analyzer SWIM procedure audits yearly. Own develop them with the plant assigned personnel. 

CSS Virtual Audit. Own this task and be the person responsible for the shutdown tables and work with process engineers to keep them correct. 

Chronic instrument and analyzer issues across the sites. 

Assist in planning, getting parts, and training the plant assigned personnel when it comes to analyzers and instrumentation. 

Be a subject matter expert for evaluating I&E personnel progression. 

Ensure contract requirements concerning instrument calibration/certifications are current and properly identified with maintenance plans in SAP. that are not in SAP. 

Ensure all required regulatory PMs are identified with maintenance plans in SAP and are routinely audited. 

Assist our controls and systems personnel and be capable of filling in when we do CSS validations outside of outages. Own validation books and ensure documentation is in the plant and available. Develop and maintain an electronic data base for the Up-river plants. 

Assist in developing QA QC packages for outages. Identify gaps and issues with instrumentation as we come out of outages to help start-ups progress smoothly.
