Postmortem Care Technician

Works under the supervision of the Anatomic Pathology Manager. Responsible for all aspects of autopsy preparation and assistance as well as maintenance of the autopsy/morgue areas. Courier responsibilities include pick up and transport of specimens from other hospital locations to the Zimmer Center Laboratory. Additional responsibilities include stocking and maintaining inventory of supplies in the autopsy room, bringing supplies from the storage cage and removing waste from Histology. Discard Surgical and Autopsy specimens appropriately, safely according to stated policy. Assists with proper handling of corpses. Assists with special projects as directed and performs other duties as assigned. What We're Looking For • Assist with the autopsy procedure and ensure that the autopsy room is properly cleaned after each autopsy.• Attends morgue and assists with proper handling of corpses to include receiving and releasing of bodies to proper authorities. Maintains morgue inventory and space.• Picks up and transport specimens from other hospital locations to the Zimmer Center Laboratory.• Retrieve supplies from the storage cage and bring them to where they are needed (Formalin, Alcohol, CO2 tanks, etc.). Picks up hazardous waste from Histology (APK wash) to the designated area for pick-up by external entity for disposal.• Transport items to various medical center departments as needed.• Stocking and maintaining inventory in the autopsy room.• Assist with special projects as directed.• Demonstrate interpersonal skills while performing assigned duties.• Discard Surgical and Autopsy specimens appropriately, safely according to stated policy.• Retrieve specimens from storage as requested by the Pathologists.
