Postdoctoral Fellow-MSH-30001-334
**Job Description** The Yasuda lab is seeking a **postdoctoral fellow** who is passionate about developing new treatments and cellular models for rare genetic disorders and in advancing fundamental understanding of mammalian heme biology. In particular, we are interested in the acute hepatic porphyrias, which are rare liver diseases due to defective heme biosynthesis. We have a track record in therapeutic development for these disorders and continue to pursue improved and safe treatments. While most of our work to date has applied mouse models to study these disorders, we are now interested in generating a biologically relevant human-based model. A newer, growing interest of our team is to investigate how mammalian cells maintain heme homeostasis, as our recent studies suggest that currently unexplored pathways are involved. Our lab at the Icahn School of Medicine at Mount Sinai is located in New York City, just steps from Central Park and in close proximity to other top institutions, facilitating collaboration. Mount Sinai postdocs are guaranteed 3 years of school housing and a competitive salary. We are in the Department of Genetics and Genomic Sciences, which offers a unique and ideal environment for translational research. The successful applicant will lead research projects under the direct mentorship of the PI and be responsible for assisting with design of experiments, executing the experiments, analyzing and recording data, and troubleshooting. They will participate in preparing meeting abstracts and manuscripts and attend both domestic and international scientific meetings to present their research and exchange ideas. The candidate must have strong oral and written communication skills and be able to work effectively both independently and as part of a diverse team. **Qualifications** **Start Date** : + Immediately **Salary Range** **:** + $72,500 ? $80,000 annually **Please send CV along with contact information (email and phone number) for 3 references to:** **Makiko.yasuda@mssm.edu** **.** SPOC-UAW Local 4100 at Icahn School of Medicine (Post Docs), 816 - Genetics/Genomic Sci - ISM, Icahn School of Medicine **Responsibilities** **Preferred Qualifications** : + Proficiency in performing basic molecular techniques, including DNA/RNA isolation, PCR, western blotting, fluorescence-activated cell sorting (FACS) + Hands-on experience with rodent care and handling + Experience in generating and/or differentiating human induced pluripotent stem cells (iPSCs) + Prior experience in isolating murine hepatocytes **About Us** **Strength through Unity and Inclusion** The Mount Sinai Health System is committed to fostering an environment where everyone can contribute to excellence.
