**Job Description** The Molecular Microbiology Laboratory at Mount Sinai Hospital is seeking a **Postdoctoral Fellow** to work on Infectious Diseases translational research and who is eager at exploring novel sequencing methods with a broader skill-set spanning both wet-laboratory skills and sequencing/computational approaches. The successful candidate should have doctorate (or PhD-level degree) and broad experience in microbiological diagnostics including virology, bacteriology, mycology and parasitology. Experience in bioinformatics is essential and desired. Key challenges will involve the design and refinement of rapid targeted and metagenomic genome sequencing approaches that could be deployed successfully into clinical laboratory diagnostics. **Qualifications** **Qualifications:** + PhD in Biological Sciences, Biomedical Science or relevant fields. + At least 2 years of post-doctoral experience. + Experienced in all areas of clinical microbiology (virology, bacteriology, mycology and parasitology). + Recent experience related to SARS-CoV-2 research. + Experienced in common and specialized molecular diagnostic techniques such as PCR, real-time PCR, next generation sequencing and bioinformatics. + Strong publication record in peer-reviewed journals. + Ability to work in a team and conduct independent research with good analytical, technical and problem-solving skills. The appointee will be responsible for initiating and carrying out validation of new diagnostic tests in the Molecular Microbiology Laboratory at the Department of Pathology, Molecular and Cell-Based Medicine, Icahn School of Medicine at Mount Sinai, under direct supervision of Dr. Alberto Paniz-Mondolfi (Director) and Juan David Ramirez (Assistant Director). **Responsibilities** **Responsibilities:** + Assist in designing, developing, executing, and implementing tests validation and/or development. (35%) + Perform specialized laboratory tests utilizing experimental protocols, which involves specialized procedures (Next Generation Sequencing and bioinformatics). (25%) + Prepare data summaries and keep detailed records of experiments. (20%) + Assists with the preparation of data for presentations at several meetings and for LDT submission. (20%) + May perform other duties and responsibilities as assigned or directed by the supervisor. This may include attendance of and participation in required training for role. The salary range for the role is $72500 - $80000 Annually. Actual salaries depend on a variety of factors, including experience, education, and hospital need. The salary range or contractual rate listed does not include bonuses/incentive, differential pay or other forms of compensation or benefits.
