Postdoctoral Fellow - Genitourinary Medical Oncology (Labanca Lab)
The MD Anderson Genitourinary Medical Oncology Department (Estefania Labanca's Team) is seeking a Postdoctoral fellow candidate to join the effort to understanding the molecular and metabolic mechanisms of growth of prostate cancer in bone, applying preclinical models of prostate cancer bone metastasis. The postdoctoral position focuses on investigating the mechanisms underlying progression of prostate cancer bone metastasis, with a focus on understanding metabolic reprogramming in the interaction of prostate cancer cells with the bone microenvironment. Successful candidates must have strong cell/tissue culture skills, as well as analytical and problem-solving skills; proficiency in bioinformatics tools and databases; knowledge of next-generation sequencing data analysis, in particular, metabolomics; proficiency in statistical methods and data visualization techniques used in basic and translational research; familiarity with preclinical approaches to monitor cancer therapy, experience in assessing and targeting pathways of the tumor and tumor microenvironment. Candidates are expected to design novel projects, create hypothesis-driven experiment, maintain excellent descriptions of experiments performed, standardize, and validate new methods and be able to interpret results. Computer skills such as entering data obtained from experiments into graphic and statistics programs as well as the generation of figures after image analysis are essentials. The employee should provide scientific expertise and organizational skills in getting involved in various research projects involving human database research. Candidate will be well-predisposed to participate in procedures with collaborators. Other skills include performing technical laboratory duties in accordance with general and/or specific plans. Read, write and edit manuscripts and reports, as well as help with grant writing. All duties and responsibilities are carried out in compliance with institutional policies, ethical research standards, and applicable federal and state regulations. *LEARNING OBJECTIVES* • Gain experience in working with prostate cancer patient-derived xenograft models from our unique discovery platform to test scientific hypotheses in a rich translational environment • Develop skills in data integration and multi-omics analysis • Build knowledge in personalized medicine and precision health • Gain experience in interacting with physician-scientists and oncologists • Gain experience in executing bioinformatics analyses that address biological questions, including deciphering metabolic patterns in prostate cancer bone metastasis • Build knowledge on bone biology and tumor-bone microenvironment interaction • Develop proficiency in scientific writing and communication, including publishing in peer-reviewed journals and presenting research at conferences To accomplish the learning objective, the candidate will be matched with cell biologists, tumor biologists, molecular biologists, physician-scientists, and experts in genomics/proteomics as well as GU oncology clinical and translational faculty (Dr. Estefania Labanca, Dr. Christopher Logothetis). *ELIGIBILITY REQUIREMENTS* Recent MD or PhD *ADDITIONAL APPLICATION INFORMATION* Prefer a candidate with an understanding of cancer biology and metabolism, interest in modeling of cancer metastasis, ability to collaborate and design and execute bioinformatics analyses that address biological questions. *POSITION INFORMATION* MD Anderson offers full-time postdoc positions with a [salary ranging from $64,000 to $76,000](https://trainees.mdanderson.org/apply/mdaPostdoctoralFellowStipendFY24.pdf). depending on the number of years of postgraduate experience.
