Position Description
The Department of Earth and Planetary Sciences at Harvard University invites applicants for a Postdoctoral Research Fellowship focused on the acquisition and study of sediment hosted glasses from ocean ridges. The position would be part of a six year project of Charles Langmuir funded by the European Research Council and the National Science Foundation to obtain long time series of igneous and hydrothermal activity at ocean ridges. There is the potential to obtain the first continuous, high resolution, well dated million year time series of volcanic activity for any terrestrial volcanic system. Candidates should have a Ph.D. in petrology or geochemistry. Desirable experience includes laser ablation ICP -MS, trace element geochemistry, geochemical modeling, studies of young volcanic rocks, and sea-going field work. Candidates need to be able to participate in sea-going expeditions that would likely take place in 2025.
The postdoctoral fellowship is for an initial two-year period, with the possibility of extension. The annual salary is $65,000 with a $1500 relocation cost for the first year. Applicants should have a recent Ph.D. Completion of the Ph.D. is required by the time of the appointment.
