The Aylward lab at Virginia Tech is seeking a post-doctoral researcher interested in the evolution and genomics of DNA viruses. The researcher will have the opportunity to work in several areas of ongoing research in the laboratory, including the isolation and genomic analysis of large DNA viruses, cultivation of diverse hosts, analysis of evolutionary relationships and genomic repertoires of different viral groups groups, and the development of bioinformatic methods for genomic and evolutionary analyses. The research will address critical questions regarding the evolution and interaction of viruses with protist hosts in nature. Candidates will be able to work on existing research projects and develop their own, provided they are synergistic with the general research goals of the lab. Experience with both experimental and computational approaches is desirable, as is proficiency in widely-used microbiological methods. The Aylward lab is a vibrant and dynamic work environment that welcomes applicants from diverse backgrounds. The anticipated start date for this position would be in Spring 2026.
