Together, we break through – as a PostDoc within Neuroscience Discovery Research (all genders) (temporary for 24 months / full-time)
The postdoc position is situated within the Glial Biology Group (Neurodegeneration Research within Neuroscience Discovery Research) in Ludwigshafen, Germany. The Glial Biology team consists of 10 members that together bring forward pre-clinical research to understand the role of glia cells in Alzheimer´s and Parkinson´s disease. The project will run for two years with the potential of getting a third year. Responsible for contributing to the scientific and strategic incorporation of AI/ML tools into existing CDD workflows.
Parkinson's disease (PD) is the second most common neurodegenerative disease. Most PD cases PD are considered idiopathic. However, more than 20 genes have recently been identified that cause monogenic forms of PD. PD was originally thought to predominantly affect dopaminergic neurons, but it is increasingly clear that PD-related mutations cause significant changes in inflammatory cells. This observation aligns with recent genetic studies indicating that, in PD, like Alzheimer's disease, immune dysfunction is causally involved.
Make your mark:
Systematically analyze the effects of PD-related mutations on the inflammatory profile of CNS immune cells (microglia, astrocytes).Evaluate and Analyze patient-derived iPSC lines of mutation carriers in an isogenic comparison to unravel possible inflammatory pathway dysfunctions connected to PD.Enable target identification with new mechanisms of action (MOA) for PD disease modification.Formal technical and content review of results, analysis data, and reports.Consolidate and present scientific activities and results at internal as well as external meetings.Creation of lab reports and methods.Qualifications
This is how you make a difference:
PhD in neuroscience, cell biology, biochemistry, pharmacology or related fieldExperience with iPSC culture and differentiation.Expertise in computational biology and transcriptomic analysis as well as drug discovery would be an advantage.Expertise in molecular biology and protein biochemistry including method development and validation would be an advantage.High scientific rigor and commitment to provide robust high quality scientific results.Very good skills in planning and coordination of complex interdisciplinary studies.A high degree of self-initiative, independency, flexibility and curiosity.Excellent teamwork, communication and interpersonal relationship skills.Language proficiency in English (written and oral).Additional Information
