Position Summary The Population Research Center engages in demographic research with public policy applications. The researcher will be responsible for the development of tools to aid in the forecast of future racial and ethnic population characteristics in the United States, that can be used to improve state and county-level population forecasts.Expected outcomes of the research by the conclusion of the term include :
(1) factors for allocating projected births into race/ethnicity categories, which vary by the demographic characteristics of the parent(s);
(2) factors for generating transitions across the life course by race/ethnicity categories, which vary by demographic characteristics of the subject and other relevant contextual factors, and which account for differing coding practices for race/ethnicity.

The work may require use of a Federal Statistical Research Data Center (FSRDC), which requires Special Sworn Status (SSS) clearance. Therefore, candidates must be a US citizen or foreign national with 3 of the past 5 years of physical residency in the US. Candidates with existing SSS clearance strongly preferred.

In addition to these responsibilities, postdoctoral scholars are expected to: Contribute to publications as author, co-author, or in another capacity as an acknowledged contributor; Engage with the research community in the area of the scholar’s activity, through presentations at regional/national meetings; Participate in professional association meetings, advisory panels, or other forums for sharing technical expertise; Review or write grant proposals, journal manuscripts, and publications related to scholar’s area of expertise; Liaise with various public, industry, and government agencies on issues related to the project or other areas aligned Primary Activity R - Research Minimum Qualifications Doctoral or equivalent degree. ABD candidates will be considered contingent upon completion of their degree by the start date of the appointment. Preferred Qualifications Candidate should have advanced knowledge of statistics. Knowledge of census or survey data and GIS would be an asset. The ideal candidate will also have experience building reproducible and generalized research frameworks and tools. Total Compensation Range & Benefits Statement The starting annual salary for this position will be $61,008 (at 1.0 FTE), but may be negotiated above this rate dependent upon years of post doctoral work experience.
