A post-doctoral associate (PDA) based at New York University (NYU) is required to work on topics related to longitudinal aging in the long-running (>80 years) study of rhesus macaque biology on Cayo Santiago, Puerto Rico. The position is funded by the National Institute on Aging, in collaboration with a multi-institution team of investigators. The study seeks to determine the impact of hurricanes on the pace of aging across different domains (physiological, physical, molecular, aging), and the impact of social buffering on mitigating these effects. The PDA will coordinate the collection and measurement of samples for the physiological aging domain, which including urine and fecal measurements of endocrine, immune and inflammatory biomarkers, in addition to the measurement of blood measures. The PDA will integrate these measures with those being collected on other aging domains, and will be expected to produce manuscripts integrating physiological data with multiomic and physical aging data.
The position is available from October 1st 2025 for one year, renewable up to three years, but later start dates are negotiable. Starting salary will be $62,500, plus benefits.
In compliance with NYC’s Pay Transparency Act, the annual base salary range for this position is $62,500. New York University considers factors such as (but not limited to) the specific grant funding and the terms of the research grant when extending an offer .
A PhD in zoology, animal biology, biological anthropology, or a related field. Evidence of active outputs, such as peer-reviewed publications and conference presentations, with some success in grant applications also preferred. The PDA may be required to do some fieldwork to collect samples in Puerto Rico, so some experience of travel and experience of undertaken data collection in the tropics is preferred. Previous experience of labwork such as enzyme or radioimmunoassays strongly preferred. Previous experience working directly with nonhuman primates is an advantage but not essential.
