About the role
Reporting to the Supervisor - Underground Maintenance, the Tradesperson - Underground Electrical will be responsible for maintaining, repairing, and installing underground electrical systems to ensure the safe and efficient operation of New Porgera Limited’s (NPL) underground mining facilities. This critical role supports NPL’s operations by ensuring uninterrupted power supply and adherence to safety standards.
In this role, you will:
Perform maintenance, troubleshooting, and repair of underground electrical systems, including motors, power cables, and control systems. Perform maintenance, troubleshooting, and repair of surface electrical systems. Install, inspect, and test electrical components and systems in compliance with electrical standards and NPL’s safety protocols. Respond promptly to electrical breakdowns, diagnose issues, and implement effective solutions to minimize downtime. Conduct regular preventative maintenance on electrical equipment to ensure reliability and operational efficiency. Adhere to strict health and safety standards while working in challenging underground environments. Document all maintenance activities, including work completed, materials used, and any issues identified. Collaborate with the maintenance and operations teams to ensure electrical systems meet operational demands. Assist in maintaining an inventory of spare parts and tools necessary for electrical maintenance tasks. Uphold high standards of health and safety awareness, ensuring compliance with NPL’s Occupational Health & Safety Policy and all safety procedures.
About You
To succeed in this role, the ideal candidate will possess the following qualifications and experiences:
Trade Certificate in Electrical. A valid PNG electrical license is essential. Manual driving license. Minimum of 3 years’ experience in electrical maintenance in the Mining, Oil and Gas or Heavy industry environment. Proven expertise in diagnosing, repairing, and maintaining electrical systems. Familiarity with HV/LV systems and experience with mining-related electrical equipment is an advantage. Strong understanding of workplace health and safety standards in underground environments. Ability to read and interpret technical drawings, schematics, and equipment manuals. Proficiency with electrical testing and diagnostic tools. Sound knowledge and demonstrated understanding of AS/NZS electrical standards. Excellent communication and teamwork skills, with the ability to work independently when required. Mobilization Requirement
This is a PNG National position, a site-based role on a FIFO arrangement with a rotation of 21 days on and 14 days off. Candidates must successfully pass a pre-employment medical, including drug and alcohol screening (to be arranged only for successful candidates after the interview stage), and provide an up-to-date Police Clearance Certificate (acquired within the last 6 months).
