The New Porgera Limited now has a vacancy for Surveillance Technician within our Surveillance Section of the Information Technology and Communications Department.

 

Position Overview

The Surveillance Technician is responsible for the installation, maintenance, and support of security and surveillance systems across the Porgera mine site, with a strong emphasis on rigging and working at heights. The role requires a competent technician with demonstrated experience performing equipment installation on elevated structures, as well as supporting both electronic security systems and networking infrastructure.This position demands hands-on technical ability, strong attention to detail, and a commitment to working safely and efficiently in a dynamic mining environment. The Surveillance Technician ensures all systems operate reliably to support site security, safety, and operational requirements.

 

Key Responsibilities

Perform rigging activities and install equipment on elevated structures in accordance with approved safety standards and procedures.Work safely at heights and ensure all fall protection, rigging gear, and access equipment is used correctly.Conduct regular inspections, preventive maintenance, and fault diagnosis on surveillance and security equipment.Install, maintain, and troubleshoot CCTV cameras, NVRs, access control systems, and associated network infrastructure.Respond promptly to system faults, alarms, and maintenance requests.Support network connectivity for surveillance systems, including basic switch configuration and cabling.Assist with surveillance system upgrades, expansions, and project work as assigned by the Surveillance Supervisor or ITC Manager.Maintain accurate documentation of maintenance tasks, equipment conditions, incidents, and completed work.Ensure all field activities comply with company security protocols, ITC standards, and safety expectations.Contribute to inventory management, including tracking tools, rigging gear, spare parts, and replacement equipment.Work collaboratively with other departments to ensure surveillance coverage supports operational and security needs.

 

Required Qualifications and Skills

Valid PNG Driver’s Licence (mandatory). Current Rigger Certification (mandatory).Demonstrated ability and certification to work at heights.Understanding of basic networking principles.Practical troubleshooting skills, including hardware diagnostics and system restoration.Ability to read and interpret technical diagrams, wiring layouts, and installation schematics.Strong commitment to safety, including awareness of hazards associated with working at heights and around heavy equipment.Effective communication and teamwork skills; ability to work with diverse teams.

Ability to work under pressure, in remote conditions, and during irregular hours when required.

 

Desirable Attributes

Knowledge of ITC systems and integration with security technologies.Familiarity with security and surveillance standards within the mining industry.Experience with structured workflows and documentation practices.Prior experience working in large industrial or remote-site environments.

 

Mobilization Requirements

This is a PNG National position, a site-based role on a FIFO arrangement with a rotation of 21 days on and 14 days off. Candidates must successfully pass a pre-employment medical, including drug and alcohol screening (to be arranged only for successful candidates after the interview stage), and provide an up-to-date Police Clearance Certificate (acquired within the last 6 months). Candidates must be PNG Nationals and available to start immediately.
