The New Porgera Limited now has a vacancy for a qualified and experienced individual to join our Processing Department - Assay Laboratory as a Supervisor - Assay Laboratory.

About the role

Reporting to the Senior Chemist - Assay Laboratory, the incumbents will be responsible for the day-to-day operation of the site assay laboratory, ensuring accurate, timely, and reliable analytical data to support mine production, processing, and metallurgical operations. This role leads a team of laboratory technicians, assayers and assistants, maintains QA/QC systems, ensures equipment is functioning optimally, and upholds the highest standards in safety and compliance.

In this role, you will:

Oversee all sample preparation and analytical testing activities (e.g. fire assay, AAS, Sulphur and Carbon) to meet operational timelines.

Manage and supervise a team of laboratory technicians, senior technicians, and assayers and assistants, including rosters, training, and performance.

Provide quality of control and report results to respective client departments, within defined QC protocols.

Maintain laboratory equipment in accordance with manufacturer specifications and internal maintenance schedules.

Liaise with processing, geology, and metallurgical teams to prioritise sampling and reporting.

Identify and implement continuous improvement opportunities in lab workflow, processes, and technology.

Ensure full compliance with all safety, environmental, and regulatory policies and procedures.

Prepare and submit operational reports, KPIs, and incident investigations as required.

Maintain a high level of health and safety awareness and comply with the NPL Occupational Health & Safety Policy and all health and safety rules and procedures, 

About You

To succeed in this role, the ideal candidate will possess the following qualifications and experiences:

Degree in Chemistry, Applied Science or related discipline preferred

Minimum 5–7 years of experience in a mining assay laboratory, with at least 2 years in a supervisory role.

Advanced knowledge of fire assay, wet chemistry, and instrumental techniques (e.g. AAS, LECO, Labfit).

Strong understanding of QA/QC systems, LIMS, and laboratory accreditation standards.

Proven leadership and people management skills.

Excellent communication and coordination skills across departments.

High attention to detail, problem-solving mindset, and ability to work under pressure.

Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite; experience with LIMS (CCLAS) or similar systems preferred.
