The New Porgera Limited now has a vacancy for a qualified and experienced individual to join our Mineral Resources Department as a Superintendent – Production Geology.

 

About the role

Reporting to the Manager- Mineral Resource, the Superintendent – Production Geology is responsible for leading the Production Geology team to deliver accurate, timely geological data and interpretations that support safe, efficient and optimized mining execution. This role ensures effective grade control, ore definition, reconciliation and geological risk management to maximize ore recovery and minimize dilution while maintaining compliance with regulatory and company standards.

In this role, you will:

Provide technical leadership to the Geology & Technical teams to ensure the best Grade Control techniques and procedures are practiced, to maximise profits by optimal extraction methods.

Provide accurate and timely geological advice to mining operations to ensure compliance to the mine plan.

Prioritise geological tasks to align with operational demands and production targets.

Lead the monthly & annual reconciliation process between resource model, grade control model and production outcomes. 

Manage accurate geological data acquisition from RC and Diamond drilling programs in both Open Pit and Underground operations. 

Manage sample delivery to the onsite laboratory, conducting QAQC to industry standards.

Maintain high-quality geological databases and models used for both short and long-term planning

Identify Resource conversion additions for both short-term and long-term mining opportunities to meet company objectives.

Drive continuous improvement, investigate new innovative technologies to advance the safety, efficiency and effectiveness of the MRM activities.

Supervise, coach and mentor and support training and professional development of Geologists in both Open Pit and Underground operations.

Liaise with Mine Planning, Mine Survey, Drill & Blast, and Operational teams to ensure seamless integration of geological information into mine planning and operational execution.

Maintain a high level of health and safety awareness and comply with the NPL Occupational Health & Safety Policy and all health and safety rules and procedures.

About You

 To succeed in this role, the ideal candidate will possess the following qualifications and experiences:

Bachelor’s degree in Geology, Earth Sciences, Geological Engineering from UPNG or equivalent

Professional Geoscience membership/ certification (e.g. AusIMM, AIG, PGeo highly desirable)

12+ years’ experience in mine or production geology roles, with at least 5 years in a gold mining environment with exposure to open pit or underground mining operations.

3+ years in a Superintendent/ Senior Mine Geologist or equivalent role managing teams.

Demonstrated experience as a safety leader within a Geology department.

Demonstrated strong leadership experience and team development capability.

Strong background in grade control, geological modeling, and reconciliation processes.

Strong understanding of sampling theory, QA/QC, and Geostatistics as applicable in a gold deposit.

High-level data analysis and technical reporting skills.

Proficiency in geological modelling and mine planning software (e.g., Leapfrog, Vulcan, Datamine).

Exposure to OrePro3D, advanced Reconciliation and material movements databases (bonus).

 

Mobilisation Requirement 

This is a PNG National position, a site-based role on a FIFO arrangement with a rotation of 21 days on and 14 days off. Candidates must successfully pass a pre-employment medical, including drug and alcohol screening (to be arranged only for successful candidates after the interview stage), and provide an up-to-date Police Clearance Certificate (acquired within the last 6 months).
