The New Porgera Limited now invites applications from suitably qualified and experience candidates for Superintendent – Accounting
About the role
Reporting to the Finance -Manager, the Superintendent - Accounting will be responsible for leading the site’s compliance and financial accounting activities. This role manages compliance with internal and external audit requirements, external reporting while also being closely involved with the month-end close process and key financial accounting processes, including general ledger integrity, fixed asset accounting, and cash flow management. The Superintendent – Accounting leads a team of Financial Accountants, and ensures financial reporting is in line with company policies and the International Financial Reporting Standards. The incumbent will play a key role in maintaining financial integrity and transparency while supporting strategic financial initiatives.
Typical duties within the role include:
• Manage the month end accounting close including complex accounting models
• Prepare monthly management and corporate reports including Board presentations
• Work towards an effective and efficient month end and year end process
• Ensure compliance with internal controls, accounting standards and corporate policies and procedures.
• Train and mentor senior accountants in the planning process and general accounting functions. Guide staff and assist in their career development.
• Participate in training and coaching National and Local employees as part of the Company’s Training and Localisation Plan
• Using procedures to get the job done, ensure that improvements to the procedures are captured and changes are made to controlled documents by the custodian
• Maintain a high level of health and safety awareness and comply with PJV Occupational Health & Safety Policy and all health rules and procedures
About You
To succeed in this role, the ideal candidate will likely have experience in a remote or FIFO mining environment with a strong understanding of PNG tax and mining legislation and possess the following qualifications and experiences:
• Bachelor’s degree in accounting, finance, or related field.
• Professional accounting qualification (e.g., CPA, CA, ACCA).
• Demonstrable experience in financial accounting and compliance, preferably in the mining or resource sector with in-depth knowledge of IFRS, tax laws, and financial regulations applicable in PNG.
• Demonstrated leadership experience with strong team management and mentoring skills.
• Experience in ERP systems (SAP (FICO), Oracle (ARCs), Pronto) and ideally with Xeras, OneStream
Key competencies and skills include:
• Financial Acumen: Strong understanding of financial accounting, treasury management and audit processes.
• Business Partnering: Proven ability to build relationships with senior leaders and operational teams, drive financial accountability, and provide clear insights to help with decision-making.
• Leadership and Team Development: The ability to lead a develop a high-performing team, providing mentorship and ensuring strong accountability.
• Systems and Data Management: Proficiency in SAP FICO, Xeras, and OneStream, along with strong Excel skills for financial modelling and reporting process improvement.
• Internal and External Audit: Proven experience managing the external audit for a large organisation. Proven experience leading the internal audit function and development of fit for purpose financial accounting policies and procedures.
