The New Porgera Limited now has a Local vacancy Senior Operator - Refinery to join our Processing Department - Refinery.

About the role

Reporting to the Foreman – Recovery -Production Anawe, the incumbent will be responsible for responsible for overseeing the day-to-day operation of the refinery area within the processing plant. This role ensures safe, efficient, and compliant operation of refinery circuits, providing leadership and support to refinery operators while monitoring plant performance to achieve production targets and maintain product quality.

In this role, you will:

Lead and perform the operation of refinery circuits including leaching, precipitation, electrowinning, smelting, or other downstream processing units.

Monitor plant conditions, process parameters, and control systems to ensure optimal refinery performance.

Conduct inspections, collect samples, and interpret results to make necessary process adjustments.

Provide on-the-job guidance and mentorship to junior operators to ensure adherence to operational and safety procedures.

Respond promptly to alarms, process deviations, and equipment issues, escalating to maintenance or supervisors when required.

Ensure compliance with standard operating procedures (SOPs), safety rules, and environmental regulations.

Assist with isolations and permit-to-work procedures as required for maintenance activities.

Maintain accurate records, logs, and reports related to plant performance, incidents, and production.

Identify and contribute to continuous improvement initiatives in refinery operations.

Support shift handovers and communicate key operational issues clearly to incoming teams.

Maintain a high level of health and safety awareness and comply with the NPL Occupational Health & Safety Policy and all health and safety rules and procedures, 

About You

To succeed in this role, the ideal candidate will possess the following qualifications and experiences:

High School or Diploma or Process Plant Certificates

Minimum 3–5 years’ experience in a mineral processing or hydrometallurgical refinery environment.

Strong knowledge of refinery unit operations, including safety, chemistry, and equipment functionality.

Demonstrated leadership capabilities and ability to mentor team members.

Experience working with control systems (DCS/SCADA) and interpreting process data.

Solid understanding of HSE standards and operational risk management.

Good communication, problem-solving, and decision-making skills.

Ability to work under pressure and manage multiple operational priorities.

Mobilization Requirements

Must have an up-to-date Police clearance certificate (acquired within the last 6 months)

Be a Local Porgerean Candidate (Cat 1A – SML 1B – LMP or Cat 2 -Other Porgera) and available to start immediately

Rotation is 14 Days on and 7 Days off including weekends

12hours Day/Night shift

Ability to successfully pass a pre-employment medical and drug and alcohol test
