New Porgera Limited has a vacancy for a suitably qualified and experienced individual to join its OH&S Department in the role of Officer – Emergency Response.
About the role
Porgera Mine is seeking a motivated and dedicated Emergency Response Officer to join our dynamic Emergency Response Team. This opportunity is ideal for candidates who possess strong theoretical training and are looking to further develop their practical, hands-on experience across both surface and underground mining operations.
You will have the opportunity to work with newly commissioned fire trucks and modern emergency response equipment, while gaining exposure to real-world emergency scenarios in a challenging mining environment. Australian-recognised training will be provided to the right candidate to support ongoing professional development.
We are looking for individuals who demonstrate a high level of physical fitness, energy, and enthusiasm, and who are committed to developing their emergency response capabilities within a professional mining operation.
Reporting to the Emergency Response Foreman, this position is responsible for supporting the effective delivery of emergency services across the Porgera Mine.
In this role, you will:
Participate as an effective Emergency Response team member in all training and emergencies on the surface and underground operations
Operate emergency response equipment and vehicles situated at Porgera Mine in the event of any emergency
Participate in routine inspections of emergency equipment including fixed fire systems
Maintain a high level of health, safety and environmental awareness and comply with all relevant NPL policies & procedures.
About You
To succeed in this role, the ideal candidate will possess the following qualifications and experiences:
Minimum 5 years’ experience in the PNG Fire Service, PNG Aviation Fire Service or PNG Resources Industry in an Emergency Response role.
Knowledge and experience in operating fire appliances, SCBA, vehicle extrication equipment, firefighting & rope rescue techniques, first aid certification and command and control
Certificate 3 in Mine Emergency Response and Rescue (or equivalent)
Underground Mines Rescue Experience/Qualification (desirable)
A valid and current PNG Police Clearance with no criminal record (acquired within the last 6 months)
No history of domestic violence or workplace harassment
Grade 10 qualification or higher
The ability and willingness to train and develop within the Emergency Response Role
Current PNG Driver’s License, Class 3 and Class 6 are essential
Ability to pass a medical assessment and a rigorous fitness assessment
Mobilisation Requirement
This is a PNG National position, a site-based role on a FIFO arrangement with a rotation of 21 days on and 14 days off. Candidates must successfully pass a pre-employment medical, including drug and alcohol screening (to be arranged only for successful candidates after the interview stage), and provide an up-to-date Police Clearance Certificate (acquired within the last 6 months). Candidates must be PNG Nationals and available to start immediately. Females are encouraged to apply.
