New Porgera Limited (NPL) is a company incorporated in Papua New Guinea and owns the Porgera Gold Mine in Enga Province. The Porgera Gold Mine will employ nearly 3,000 Papua New Guineans at full production, and over the last 30 years of life of the mine it has contributed approximately 10% of Papua New Guinea’s total annual exports.
The New Porgera Limited now has a vacancy for a qualified and experienced individual as Foreman – Crusher and Sag mill.
About the role
Reporting to the Superintendent - Maintenance, the Forman will play a key role in supporting the daily operations of the Crusher and Sag Mill team, supervising and coordinating maintenance activities to ensure the safe, efficient, and reliable operation of our fixed plant equipment. Providing clear directives from Superintendent to work force via supervisors to ensure all safety procedures are followed and oversee daily priorities are implemented with applying Barrick core values and standards and demonstrates leadership.
In this role, you will:
Guide the team in the completion of tasks, to ensure achievement of the shift plan Ensure Equipment and Machines are available to perform tasks Maintain work standards in accordance with government regulations and company policy Ensure training requirements are met Carry out other relative duties as directed by the Superintendent Recommends measures to improve maintenance methods, equipment performance, and quality of repair work carried out by tradesman Suggests changes in working procedures and use of equipment to increase efficiency of maintenance procedures Analyses and resolves work problems or assists workers in solving work problems Competent in a methodical approach to trouble shooting problems with Machines and equipment within Fixed Plant Study production schedules and estimate worker hour requirements for completion of job assignments Ability to train National tradesmen and serviceman in all areas of Fixed Plant Fitter maintenance Establish or adjust work priorities to meet operations production schedules with open pit, underground and processing, supervision and ensure work is being scheduled to meet maintenance resources Confer with other foremen to coordinate activities of individual departments Prepare and maintain competency-based appraisal system for tradesperson and assistants Develop JHA’s and SWP’s and maintain the relevant data base records Supervise and guide tradesperson to ensure maintenance plans and production targets are achieved safely and efficiently Ensure plant equipment is maintained, available, and reliable to meet operational needs Promote and enforce high standards in health, safety, and environmental compliance Lead inspections, safety meetings, job safety analyses (JSAs), and toolbox talks Identify and implement improvements in maintenance methods and work practices Mentor and train National tradesmen, supporting workforce development and localisation goals Conduct performance reviews, provide regular feedback, and support team development through structured training programs Ensure full compliance with Barrick policies, including the Code of Conduct, Community Relations Standards, Environmental and Safety Management Systems
About You
To succeed in this role, the ideal candidate will possess the following qualifications and experiences:
Trade Certification – Recognised Tradesman Certificate in Mechanical Fitting or equivalent. Must have more than 5 years of experience in leadership role Experience in fixed plant maintenance within a mining or heavy industrial environment Strong communication and interpersonal skills – able to communicate effectively across all levels and cultures Competent in English (written and spoken); Tok Pisin is an advantage. Ability to lead, train, and mentor team members, promoting skill development and knowledge transfer Highly attention to detail with a strong focus on safety, hazard awareness, and compliance. Self-motivated, reliable, and capable of working independently and within a team Demonstrated ability to build trust, foster collaboration, and support team ownership Culturally aware and respectful, with a willingness to engage and learn from diverse backgrounds.
Mobilization Requirement
This is a PNG National position, a site-based role on a FIFO arrangement with a rotation of 21 days on and 14 days off. Candidates must successfully pass a pre-employment medical, including drug and alcohol screening (to be arranged only for successful candidates after the interview stage), and provide an up-to-date Police Clearance Certificate (acquired within the last 6 months).
