NPL now has a vacancy for Coordinator – Purchasing within the Purchasing Section of the Supply and Business Department.

About the Role

NPL is seeking a detail‑oriented and strategic Coordinator – Purchasing to join our Procurement and Supply Chain team based at the Lae office. The role ensures that goods and services are procured in accordance with corporate and site requirements, as well as NPL policies and procedures.

Key Responsibilities

Lead, mentor and manage a high-performing procurement team, fostering accountability, capability development and a strong service culture.Establish and embed a positive, performance-driven office culture that aligns with and reflects NPL site and Barrick corporate expectations and values.Set, monitor and achieve purchasing and expediting KPIs to deliver cost savings, compliance, supply continuity and value to the business.Process and manage purchase orders in a timely manner.Identify appropriate suppliers.Manage the Request for Quote (RFQ) process to receive competitive pricing, negotiate costs, and apply NPL‑approved Terms and Conditions.Identify priorities and urgent requirements and expedite orders to established delivery points.Liaise with vendors and expediters to ensure timely and smooth end‑to‑end transportation to site.Maintain regular communication with end users to ensure effective service delivery.Maintain accurate records demonstrating compliance with site requirements.Provide required reporting to the supervisor and manager to meet agreed service levels.Assist the Supervisor and Superintendent with implementing change management initiatives and other business improvement projects.Support team members and Superintendents with duties as needed, including any ad‑hoc project tasks assigned by Management.Maintain a high level of health and safety awareness and comply with the NPL Occupational Health & Safety Policy and all safety rules and procedures.

 

The Ideal Candidate Must Have:

Recognized tertiary qualifications in purchasing or procurement (desirable).Significant experience in purchasing roles involving international freight movement in mining, oil & gas or heavy industries Demonstrated experience leading and developing high-performing procurement teams, establishing a strong, values-driven culture aligned to broader site expectations.Broad knowledge of PNG and international supplier purchasing and delivery practices.General knowledge of PNG Customs legislation related to the import and export of materials.Proven purchasing and sourcing experience.Good computer skills with the ability to use integrated management systems, word processing, presentation, and spreadsheet applications; SAP experience is desirable.General knowledge of the movement of dangerous goods across all modes of transport.High attention to detail and excellent organizational skills.Experience using computerized materials management and inventory systems.Ability to communicate effectively across all levels.

 

Mobilization Requirements

This is a PNG National Staff position based at the Lae office, operating on a five (5) days on / two (2) days off rotation. 

Applicants must reside in Lae and will be required to:

Successfully complete a pre‑employment medical examination, including drug and alcohol screening (arranged for shortlisted candidates after the interview).Provide a valid Police Clearance Certificate issued within the last six (6) months or able to obtain one.
