The New Porgera Limited now has a Local vacancy Assistant Sample Preparer- Assay Laboratory to join our Processing Department - Assay Laboratory.

About the role

Reporting to the Supervisor – Assay Laboratory, the Assistant Sample Preparer supports the processing of geological and metallurgical samples for analysis. This role is critical in ensuring that all samples are prepared according to established procedures and safety standards, enabling accurate and timely laboratory results.

In this role, you will:

Receive, label, and log incoming samples from the mine site or processing plant.

Prepare samples by drying, crushing, splitting, and pulverizing according to standard operating procedures (SOPs).

Maintain cleanliness and organization of sample preparation areas.

Ensure all equipment is cleaned and maintained regularly.

Follow strict QA/QC protocols to avoid contamination or loss of sample integrity.

Assist with inventory and ordering of laboratory supplies as needed.

Adhere to site safety procedures and actively participate in toolbox meetings and safety initiatives.

Perform other duties as required to support the laboratory and processing teams.

Maintain a high level of health and safety awareness and comply with the NPL Occupational Health & Safety Policy and all health and safety rules and procedures

About You

To succeed in this role, the ideal candidate will possess the following qualifications and experiences:

High school certificate or equivalent required; additional technical/laboratory training is a plus.

Prior experience in sample preparation or mining/laboratory environment is advantageous but not essential.

Good attention to detail and ability to follow written instructions.

Ability to work in a physically demanding environment, including lifting and standing for extended periods.

Strong commitment to workplace safety and hygiene.

Mobilization Requirements

Must have an up-to-date Police clearance certificate (acquired within the last 6 months)

Be a Local Porgerean Candidate (Cat 1A – SML 1B – LMP or Cat 2 -Other Porgera) and available to start immediately

Rotation is 14 Days on and 7 Days off including weekends

12hours Day/Night shift

Ability to successfully pass a pre-employment medical and drug and alcohol test
