About New Porgera

New Porgera Limited (NPL) is a company incorporated in Papua New Guinea and owns the Porgera Gold Mine in Enga Province. The Porgera Gold Mine will employ nearly 3,000 Papua New Guineans at full production, and over the last 30 years of life of the mine it has contributed approximately 10% of Papua New Guinea’s total annual exports.

NPL is currently seeking a qualified and experienced individual to join the Occupational Health & Safety Department as a Advisor, Safety .

About the role

Reporting to the Senior Safety Advisor, the successful candidate will be responsible to support site teams with risk assessments, coaching, and incident follow-up. Ensures compliance with mine safety laws and helping to maintain zero-harm outcomes through proactive hazard identification. 

To support safety compliance through inspections, coaching, and risk management activities. Advises operational teams on best practices and control measures to prevent incidents and maintain a safe mining environment.

In this role, you will;

Proactively encourage compliance with safety standards across all operational areas

Provide expert advice to internal stakeholders on safety compliance and obligations

Support and mentor teams in hazard identification and control measures

Conduct incident investigation and risk assessments as required

Track and report Health and Safety metrics, analysing trends to drive continual improvement

Supervise workplace safety audit groups and monitor outcomes of safety audit reports

Develop, implement, and maintain safe work procedures to promote high safety and health awareness

Prepare and deliver safety-related training sessions and other duties as directed 

Ensure appropriate facilities, procedures, and workforce competence to achieve legal compliance and incident prevention

Maintain a high level of health and safety awareness and comply with NPL Occupational Health & Safety Policy and all health regulations and procedures

About You

To succeed in this role, the ideal candidate will possess the following qualifications and experiences:

Degree or Diploma in Occupational Health & Safety or related field (desirable)Cert.IV in Work Health & Safety and certifications in incident investigations (preferably ICAM)Behavioral Safety qualifications (desirable) Proven experience in a safety advisory role within a similar industryExperience in conducting safety audits and inspectionsBackground in developing and implementing safety programs and policiesStrong understanding of OH&S regulations and risk management practices Collaborate with site management, supervisors, and employees to promote safety cultureLiaise with regulatory bodies, contractors, and suppliers to ensure compliance and best practicesEngage with training providers to ensure up-to-date and relevant safety training programsFamiliarity with safety management systems and softwareValid Class 6 Drivers License
