Job Summary

\n

The Polysomnography Technologist 1, guided by the Manager, monitors a patient's sleep for diagnosing sleep-related disorders and performs therapeutic procedures. Monitors multi-physiologic parameters over long periods. Communicates and educates patients and families about sleep disorders and treatments.

\n

Essential Functions of the Role

\n\nPerforms polysomnographic studies in a clinical setting, including oxygen and nasal continuous positive airway pressure titrations.\nScores studies and formulates reports for physician interpretation. Documents all pertinent patient events according to department policy.\nCommunicates instructions, results and relative information to patients, physicians and family members.\nCalibrates and performs routine maintenance on equipment. Troubleshoots and contacts manufacturers for repairs as needed. Notifies proper personnel for equipment problems. Cleans all equipment to ensure infection control.\nProvides expertise for difficult-to-fit nasal, continuous positive airway pressure (CPAP) patients.\nTrains respiratory personnel on proper mask fit techniques.\nConsults with sleep Physicians regarding testing results and toleration to therapies.\nAssists with development and maintenance of policies and procedures.\nParticipates in community service through sleep apnea screening.\n\n

Key Success Factors

\n\nGeneral knowledge of Polysomnographic Care modalities, therapies, equipment and medications.\nMust be able to read, write and follow flow chart protocols as appropriate.\nMust be able to work under stressful conditions.\nMust have critical thinking and problem-solving skills.\nAbility to maintain and troubleshoot audio and video equipment.\nGeneral computer skills, including but not limited to data entry, information security, electronic medical documentation, handheld scanning and email.\n\n
