Job DescriptionCNBC.com is seeking a reporter to cover the intersection of politics, the courts, and business. The reporter will break news, deliver scoops, and write sharp analysis that shows how decisions in Washington and the legal system affect companies, markets, and the economy.
This role requires someone who can mine stories from the courts, especially the Supreme Court, the Department of Justice, and other major legal battles with business implications. It’s about recognizing where the legal system and the business world clash—and turning those moments into journalism that resonates with a broad audience.
The reporter will join a collaborative team that values flexibility and teamwork. While the primary focus will be on legal and political coverage, there will be occasions to jump in on major news and help colleagues across the newsroom. The ideal candidate is fast, accurate, and eager to deliver both breaking news and distinctive enterprise reporting.
What you'll do:
Break exclusive political news on the courts and legal decisions that impact business and the economy. This person will also report on court decisions that influence everything from FTC rulings to the Fed’s independence.Develop coverage of the legal beat, specifically focusing on high-profile lawsuits and federal court decisions that impact politics, policy, business and the Trump administration.Collaborate with the digital newsroom and our TV reporters for stories with major business implications.What we’ll offer:

3+ years of experience in political news, reporting, writing, or producing.Experience working in a fast-paced digital or TV newsroom.A passion for politics and elections, and the ability to cover developing news as it happens.Strong journalistic writing skills, research skills and editorial judgment.The ability to work effectively in a high-intensity environment, often under tight deadline pressures.You’ll stand out with:
Clips of strongly reported well written stories on politics, policy, campaigns or legislation.Established relationships with experts and sources in politics or on Wall Street.
