Key Responsibilities
This position has three key areas of responsibility.
This position provides senior level staffing support to various committees, including primary support to the Undergraduate Policy Committee, and the Graduate Policy Committee, and back-up support to the Internal Policy Committee. This includes proactive and high-level support to senior staff managing the EVPP policy process through the Provost’s Internal Policy Committee. At the direction of senior staff, this position supports and participates in the office’s policy related work including the creation and maintenance of various documents, reports, handbooks, and adjacent items. This work may include intensive research and benchmarking as directed by senior staff. This position supports the preparation and execution of faculty and academic personnel actions for Board of Visitors' approval. This work includes extracting, reviewing, cleaning and formatting personnel data; confirming personnel data as submitted; and routing actions for approval as appropriate. This position reviews personnel-related materials and data (in Workday or within other systems or spreadsheets) for compliance with academic policies, and to identify discrepancies, and then works to ameliorate any issues as appropriate. As a part of a team, this position provides key operational support for the execution and management of faculty appointments and other personnel actions, as well as special academic and executive academic personnel actions. This work may include monitoring and managing limited-term appointments and renewals (using Workday); periodically cleaning and correcting personnel data; and stewarding personnel-related transactions to completion.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
A Bachelor’s degree, or significant relevant experience in lieu of a degree, and three years’ experience in a similar professional high level administrative role is required. Preference will be given to candidates with a Master’s degree in a related field, a J.D., or a legal or a policy background. The right candidate will have excellent written and verbal communication skills; experience handling confidential and sensitive issues with tact and discretion; capacity to work independently while effectively managing multiple priorities; and ability to build and sustain positive and collaborative working relations. Experience in policy analysis, development, or implementation, in an academic setting, drafting materials for governance bodies or executive audiences, and/or synthesizing and analyzing feedback from multiple stakeholders with varied priorities is preferred. Experience in higher education or academic administration is preferred, with experience at UVA strongly preferred.
The anticipated hiring range is $65,000 to $75,000 commensurate with education and experience. The University will perform background checks on all new hires prior to employment. Physical Demands:
This is primarily a sedentary job involving extensive use of desktop computers. The job does occasionally require traveling some distance to attend meetings, and programs.
