Summary:
Coordinates and oversees security operations and personnel on an assigned shift. As a working supervisor, performs patrolling, surveillance, escorting, investigation and intervention services in an effort to protect the safety and security of patients, visitors, employees, physicians and property. Incumbent is authorized to make arrests in accordance with the state and local provisions.
Responsibilities:
1. Participates in selected administrative operations of the department under the direction of the Chief of Security to include, but not limited to: Recommends new/revised policies, procedures and methods, -Evaluates new products, services and equipment, Responsible for compliance with designated JCAHO and other regulatory requirements, Processes time sheets and maintains attendance and clocking activity.
2. Supervises assigned personnel, under the general supervision of the Department Manager to include, but not limited to: Orients, and trains assigned employees, Provides for the continuing education of staff, when assigned, Prepares work schedules for submission to the Manager, and posts those approved, Modifies schedules to reflect changing workload and employee needs, as necessary, Approves meal and rest periods, as warranted, Assigns and checks work results for quality, accuracy and timeliness, Investigates complaints, errors and other operational problems, and takes corrective action, Provides substantiated input into the performance review process for assigned employees, Counsels employees with performance or behavioral problems with knowledge and approval of the department manager, Provides input with respect to promotions, discipline and discharge.
3. Patrols NHCS buildings and grounds, and observes for unsafe or illegal activity, and for doors/areas which are not secured.
4. Responds to calls for assistance to include, but not limited to: Assists injured/ill patients with getting in and out of vehicles; Responds to calls for help with moving, positioning or restraining patients; Responds to calls for help with unruly, abusive, combative, threatening or armed persons; Responds to calls for escorts; Responds to calls from authorized personnel to unlock doors; Responds to calls for help when vehicles won’t start, or persons are locked out of their cars; Responds to calls for vehicular, helicopter or public traffic control; Responds to reports of theft, vandalism or property damage; Responds to calls for assistance from the morgue, and assists funeral home personnel with physically moving bodies; Responds to fire and security alarms
5. Runs errands and transports patients via motor vehicle to include, but not limited to: Transports patients to and/or from various NHCS facilities/buildings, Edgecombe Nash Mental Health, and Rocky Mount Kidney Center; Obtains required paperwork from Magistrates’ offices, upon request; May transport cash, checks and other documents to/from area banks, upon request.
6. Documents work activities and incidents.
7. Acquires age-specific knowledge necessary to provide appropriate service and communications.
8. Takes an active role in self-development.
9. Performs other duties as needed.
Other information:
Education Requirements:
• High School Diploma or GED.
• Graduate of accredited Basic Law Enforcement Training program.
• Supervisory training/course work and advanced law enforcement training/course work is preferred.
Licensure/Certification Requirements:
• Valid North Carolina Driver's License (NCDL).
• Commissioned as a law enforcement officer by the State of North Carolina.
• CPI Certification (must obtain within 90-days of hire) Recertification required every 2 years.
• BCLS Certification (must obtain within 90-days of hire) Recertification required every 2 years.
Professional Experience Requirements:
• A minimum of 2 years’ experience in Operations - Security/Surveillance.
