Southern University at Shreveport (SUSLA) is one of five campuses comprising the Historically Black Southern University System. Our priority is to aid people from diverse backgrounds to improve the quality of their lives and become contributing participants in this community's cultural and economic development. SUSLA has approximately 3,180 undergraduate students, 413 full and part-time employees including 175 faculty members. The University offers 33 undergraduate degrees, and confers some 350 degrees annually. SUSLA’s annual operating budget is approximately $12 million. The physical plant, located on Martin Luther King, Jr. Drive is more than 100 acres with 11 buildings. SUSLA has two additional locations to provide educational opportunities and accessibility: the Downtown Metro Center providing state-of-the-art allied health programs, and the Aerospace Technology Center at the Shreveport Downtown Airport that houses the FAA-approved Aerospace Technology and Maintenance programs.
As a Police Officer, you will support a safe environment through proactive patrol, emergency response, and law enforcement to SUSLA's campuses.

Minimum Qualifications
One year of law enforcement experience.
NECESSARY SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS:
Applicants must be at least 18 years of age.
Possession of a current Louisiana driver's license.
Willingness and ability to attain a Peace Officer Standards and Training (POST) certification.
An applicant who has been convicted of a felony or who is under indictment on a felony charge will be disqualified until relief from the disabilities imposed by state and federal laws is granted.

Job Duties and Other Information
Job Duties:
In this role, you will:
• Provide protective police services to employees, the public, and state buildings and grounds
• Patrol assigned areas by foot or vehicle to detect and deter criminal activity
• Respond to calls for service and assess the nature and urgency of emergencies
• Investigate incidents, accidents, and suspicious activities
• Enforce laws, regulations, and installation rules through verbal warnings, citations, or arrests
• Control traffic flow and ensure safety at public events or accident scenes
• Operate police vehicles, radios, and communication systems
• Participate in regular training to maintain law enforcement skills and readiness

Appointment Type:Probational, Promotional, or Job Appointment
Career Progression:This position may be filled as a Police Officer 2.
Work Schedule:Determined by Supervisor. You will work rotating 12- hour shifts, with rotating days off.
Compensation:The Police Officer 2 offers a Special Entrance Rate (SER) of $1,590.40 bi-weekly, $41,350.40 annually.
