We are looking for a Technical Specialist who will have the responsibility to drive the Print on Demand (PoD) equipment performance to the next level across our Operations. The role is part of a Global Engineering team and will require up to 50% of time for travels in North America.
The PoD Technical Specialist will be the expert for equipment supporting the book fabrication operations within the Amazon fulfillment network. You will directly interact with Operations Teams, On Site Maintenance (RME), PoD Engineers, Procurement, and Vendors to support the existing equipment and develop the next generation of Amazon-tailored equipment. The ideal candidate must be an innovative and solutions-oriented engineer with a proven history of hands-on work and on-site troubleshooting of relevant equipment, in addition to program management and design skills.

To be successful in this role, you will need to be a customer-focused technical expert and work effectively with leaders across multiple organizations and regions. You will also need to be a diligent technical project manager, communicator, and problem solver with a proven history in site level engineering support. You will lead technical complex initiatives with worldwide impact, deal with ambiguity, and advocate for chosen solutions in a global cross-functional organization.
The POD Technical Specialist is responsible for the creation and use of the technical standards for POD technology. The ideal candidate is the expert for the region for any issues that cannot be solved by the local operations or maintenance teams. Primary responsibilities are:
Develop the global technical specifications of POD equipment
Lead global standardization by ensuring all installed equipment is compliant with the required specifications
Drive compliance of standards with suppliers and with POD technical teams (RME, Engineering)
Provide documentation to set up, run, and maintain POD equipment, collaborating with RME Learning & Development team to guarantee consistency of global deployment
Provide technical expertise to support Global POD Engineering, WW Design Engineering, and Engineering Services in integrating POD equipment for any new POD facilities
Provide technical expertise on POD equipment to the NA network for:
o Site operational technical issues unsolved and escalated by RME/Op's teams
o Site launches and ramp-up when new technology is deployed
o RME training needs when new technology is deployed
Define and qualify improvements required for POD equipment, in direct liaison with the POD vendors, by gathering the needs identified in the global network
Play a key role in the development of new technology to support the business long-term strategy including Factory-Acceptance-Test and Site-Acceptance-Test to qualify the new technology
Participate in and sometimes lead required certifications (safety, environmental, etc.) for new equipment, including regulatory certification as well as additional Amazon requirements

The role requires the ability to deal with ambiguity due to the nature of the Print-On-Demand business:
- The POD technology is unique within the Amazon organization. The POD Technical Specialist must be able to work autonomously and work cross-functionally and coordinate multiple independent stakeholders to successfully fulfill responsibilities.
- Amazon’s Print on Demand is a fast-moving business with constant innovation, driving opportunities for faster, efficient, and more flexible processes driven by improvements in equipment and technology. The POD Technical Specialist needs to follow the trends of new technology and drive Amazon-specific trials with the suppliers to promote future technology improvement in the POD facilities.
- Amazon operates a global network of print facilities, with global Operations & Engineering standards. The POD Technical Specialist must reinforce these standards in the existing facilities and must comply with them when supporting the design of a new facility.
- The POD organization is a fast-paced environment with stretched schedules between business decisions and actions. The POD Technical Specialist must be ready to travel and work hands-on to guarantee the success of their appointed projects.
Basic Qualifications
Basic Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree in an engineering field or equivalent experience
- 3+ years' experience in a technical role related to manufacturing, ideally in a fast-paced industrial, logistics, production, or manufacturing environment
- Ability to travel <50% in all regions of the NA network
- Demonstrated ability to work with a cross-functional team across design, engineering, and operations to deliver complex solutions
- Fluent in English (verbal and written communication skills)

- Experience managing multiple, competing priorities simultaneously
- Experience working in book-printing or Manufacturing-On-Demand industry
- Proven ability to work with multiple stakeholders, both internally and externally

- 5+ years in a similar field or related occupation of Design/Innovation, Research & Development, Manufacturing/Process/Industrial Engineering

Our compensation reflects the cost of labor across several US geographic markets. The base pay for this position ranges from $136,100/year in our lowest geographic market up to $235,200/year in our highest geographic market. Pay is based on a number of factors including market location and may vary depending on job-related knowledge, skills, and experience. Amazon is a total compensation company.
