Summary:

The Supervisor, Coding is responsible for the daily oversight, supervision and monitoring of operations, performance management, workflow and staffing of the abstracting, coding, charge capture and workqueue maintenance functions performed by Certified Coders. The Supervisor, Coding is also responsible for reviewing and auditing to ensure compliance and accuracy and also serves as a coding resource in support of revenue cycle initiatives. Maintains thorough knowledge and understanding of current CPT and ICD-10 coding schemes, associated rules, guidelines and updates as well as a thorough knowledge of current database operations, processes, problems and changes. Provides Coding Manager with operational metrics and feedback regarding areas of concern/issues for the department. Ensures that policies and procedures, in accordance with industry and organizational standards, involving the selection and utilization of CPT and ICD codes, are followed. Additionally, ensures accurate representation of services provided based on medical documentation and maximizing reimbursement. Promotes teamwork in the area and cross departmentally builds relationships through prompt and courteous service to providers and office/ancillary staff, and at all times maintains a professional demeanor to assure that patients are treated in an appropriate and compassionate manner.

Qualifications:

High school Diploma or equivalent

Two years relevant experience abstracting and coding physician services or three years in the capacity of Senior Coding Analyst or similar position

Understanding of diversified insurance plans, proficiency in anatomy and medical terminology a plus

Exhibits excellent interpersonal and communication skills

Maturity to withstand pressures that may arise in relation to interaction with the public, physicians or administration

Current coding certification through the American Academy of Procedural Coders (AAPC) or other recognized coding certification organization

Multiple specialty coding certifications preferred
