Location/Division Specific InformationThis position is based in Pittsburgh, PA, USA, and is part of the Tools and Automation team within Corporate Infrastructure and Security at Thermo Fisher Scientific.
How Will You Make an Impact?Infrastructure automation is at the heart of how Thermo Fisher Scientific enables agile, scalable, and reliable digital services. As a Platform Automation Engineer, you will design and implement solutions that automate infrastructure provisioning, system configuration, application deployment, and platform operations. Your work will directly impact the speed, security, and stability of the global infrastructure that powers Thermo Fisher’s mission-driven services.
A Day in the Life:Build and maintain Infrastructure as Code (IaC) modules and reusable automation frameworks.
Develop automation pipelines that integrate with enterprise platforms such as ServiceNow, GitHub Actions, StackStorm, and Jenkins.
Create scalable deployment workflows for private and public cloud environments (AWS, Azure, VMware).
Collaborate with platform, security, and application teams to gather requirements and deliver automation solutions that meet business and operational needs.
Improve monitoring, configuration, and operational visibility through automation and self-healing systems.
Write clear and comprehensive documentation for automation workflows and best practices.
Keys to Success:Education:
Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, or a related technical field.
Experience:
Strong experience in infrastructure automation, DevOps, or platform engineering roles.
Proven ability to automate across systems, environments, and tools using modern scripting and IaC technologies.
Experience implementing CI/CD pipelines and automation workflows in production environments.
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:
Required:
Proficiency in Python for automation and scripting tasks.
Hands-on experience with Infrastructure as Code (IaC) tools and practices.
Advantageous:
Familiarity with tools and platforms such as:
Terraform (big plus!)
Ansible, Jenkins, Vault
StackStorm, ServiceNow
GitHub Actions
Experience working with:
Public cloud platforms (AWS, Azure)
VMware and on-premises infrastructure
Understanding of configuration management, system orchestration, and compliance automation.
Strong problem-solving, communication, and collaboration skills in a global, distributed environment.
