Your OpportunityThis job is a blended job where the individual will supervise the purchasing team and shipping department and assist in the creation of the production schedule for the Plant. Responsible for ensuring the continuous supply and timely procurement of packaging, ingredients, MRO and other materials. Manages current suppliers and maintains close contact by correspondence and telephone to keep abreast of market and procurement conditions, new technology, and makes recommendations to ensure an uninterrupted flow of materials to the production facility. This position also includes establishing a daily production schedule and weekly orders for plant operations.
Core ResponsibilitiesEnsures Production Schedulers are creating and managing purchase orders, invoice discrepancies, and forecasts. Ensures all suppliers have consistent forecast visibility and adequate capacity.
Manages cost savings on key commodities based on price negotiations, value improvement, total cost reductions, and inventory management.
Develops and directs cost savings projects by challenging supplier pricing, generating value engineering ideas, and creating negotiating strategies. Leads continuous improvement projects by actively simplifying processes and reducing non-value-add administrative activities.
Leads the sourcing process, including strategy, analysis, RFP development, negotiations and contract review.
Acts as primary liaison between the plants and suppliers and works to resolve supply, quality and cost issues.
Schedule production areas on products to be processed to cover sales orders and the movement of work force on a daily and/or weekly basis.
Forecasts the materials needed to maintain inventories and keep the plant running efficiently.
Manages the rotation of raw materials and finished products, and to ensure product dates remain in spec.
Coordinates sales orders, rotation of finished products, stock transfers, incoming raw material, and inventories daily with the Shipping department to ensure customer satisfaction.

Qualifications

Bachelor’s Degree from a regionally accredited college or University with an emphasis in Business, purchasing, materials management, or related field and 5+ years of relevant experience; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
2+ years experience in a position of leadership to include team development and management or managing processes and projects, required.
Broad knowledge of purchasing processes and supplier relationship management.
P.M. or APICS certification, preferred.
Excellent working knowledge of SAP and the modules Production Planning, Material Management and Sales Distribution.
Knowledge of ERP or MRP systems, Microsoft Office, including Word and Excel.
Ability to write reports, business correspondence and procedure manuals.
Excellent written and verbal communication skills, organizational planning, teamwork, analytical reasoning, and adaptability.
Ability to work in a team environment as well as independently with minimal supervision.
Demonstrated planning, organization, and execution skills.
Strong interpersonal and technical skills.
Knowledge of SAP is preferred.
Ability to work well with others in fast paced, dynamic environment.
Ability to be respectful, approachable and team oriented while building strong working relationships and a positive work environment.
Supervisory Responsibilities
Provides leadership and guidance to employees in the Purchasing, Scheduling and Shipping departments.
Carries out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the organization's policies and applicable laws.
Responsibilities include interviewing, hiring, and training employees; planning, assigning, and directing work; appraising performance; rewarding and disciplining employees; addressing complaints and assisting in providing appropriate resolutions.
