Position Brand Description: 

The Plant Engineering Department in Branchburg NJ is responsible for maintaining the site’s facility infrastructure including HVAC, GMP utilities, steam, water, sewer, electric, and other utility systems and equipment to a state of compliance. Each Plant Engineer is responsible for establishing and maintaining the reliable operation of their system and ensuring all equipment is in a qualified state to support the business processes.  Additionally, each engineer ensures that their equipment is in-control, compliant, and capable of meeting customer needs, while also driving associated continuous improvement initiatives. 

The focus of this position is to coach/guide the plant engineers through standardization and continuous improvement across the entire department, including but not limited to the following business processes:

Change Management

Deviations/Investigations

Equipment/Process Improvement

Process Controls and Variability Reduction

Asset Delivery

Lean Manufacturing Principles

This position will be part of a Process Team and work with cross functional team members to provide oversight and troubleshoot issues for reliable operation of the plant systems. Provide technical support on day-to-day activities, analyzing data and creating reports, driving appropriate change controls/deviations, preparing/adhering project schedules, as applicable. As applicable, other duties will include interacting with various team members on other Teams, including Engineering, Maintenance, Manufacturing, Validation, Quality Assurance, and other Lilly Sites. 

Key Objectives/Deliverables: 

Manage for Results /Strategic Planning: 

Responsible for providing consistency and improvements across the plant engineering department processes.  Continuously reducing variability through the monitoring of all Quality and HSE events.Deep knowledge of engineering first principles, Root Cause Analysis (RCA), statistical tools, Lean Manufacturing Practices, and champion the use of these tools within the plant engineering and process teams.Knowledgeable of Process Flow Diagrams (PFD), Critical Process Parameters (CPPs), Critical Operating Parameters (COPs), throughput/capacity to guide decision making.Support or lead troubleshooting efforts to resolve process and operational problems and ensure formal problem-solving techniques are appropriately utilized.Understand and ensure compliance with engineering standards, and environment health and safety requirements.Develop and guide plant engineers through deviations, control strategies, change controls etc.  Lead more complex investigations and author technical documentation, change controls etc.Effectively communicate as a member of the Plant Engineering and the Utilities Process Teams.Assess/identify opportunities to improve plant engineering processes, recommend solutions, and manage implementation.Understand the basis for equipment qualification and ensure it is appropriate for the intended purpose.Present and attend various governance teams to represent plant engineering.Consistently demonstrate good technical and business justification documentation for projects including project plans, HSE reviews, design documents, business cases, etc. for driving technical agendas.SAFETY: Ensures overall job environmental, health and safety aspects and understands the risks and liabilities associated with various activities. Take actions, including initiating Facilities and Engineering projects to address or prevent unsafe conditions for self and site personnel.

Manage Relationships with Key Stakeholders and Customers: 

Will interact with system end user, HSE, QA, QC, Process Control Engineering, Validation, design consultants and construction contractors.

Basic Requirements: 

Bachelor of Science, Chemical, Mechanical Engineering or related engineering discipline.Minimum 5+ years of experience working in a GMP environment.

Strong written and verbal communication skills.Problem Solving skills – Anticipates and resolves complex problemsStrong leadership skillsThorough technical understanding of the quality systems and regulatory requirementsPossess a passion for driving continuous improvement and standardization practices.Six Sigma experience a plus.Strong organizational skills.Be self-motivated, confident, able to influence and have a self-directed personality with able to work independently as well as in a team environment. 

Other Information:  

Minimal travel required.Lifting not required. Standard business hours (days, M-F) with after-hour support and shutdown support as needed.

Actual compensation will depend on a candidate’s education, experience, skills, and geographic location.  The anticipated wage for this position is

$70,500 - $183,700

Full-time equivalent employees also will be eligible for a company bonus (depending, in part, on company and individual performance).
