Posting Details Job Title Planned Giving Officer Department OFFICE OF DEVELOPMENT-C/W Position Number FP418A Location Norfolk, VA Job Summary The Planned Giving Officer ( PGO ) will be responsible for cultivating relationships with faculty, alumni, donors, and friends of ODU to actively solicit major and planned gifts in support of ODU’s funding priorities, which may include estate gifts, life income gifts, outright gifts, and non-cash assets. This work is accomplished by identifying, qualifying, cultivating, soliciting, and stewarding individual donors while also providing technical support to other frontline fundraising teams, including major and annual giving Position Type FullTime Type of Recruitment General Public Minimum Qualifications + Master’s degree in business, finance/accounting/banking, law, or a related field; or a Bachelor’s degree in stated fields with related experience equivalent to a master’s degree + Proven success in major and/or planned gift fundraising within a higher education setting. + Considerable expertise in planned giving strategies and gift vehicles as well as best practices. + Proficiency with PG software and donor databases. + Superior interpersonal skills with proven ability to successfully interact and collaborate with varied constituencies in a professional manner, exhibiting excellent communication skills, and demonstrating tact, poise and diplomacy while working with a wide variety of personalities. + Considerable project management skills. + Considerable relationship management and cultivation skills. + Considerable conflict resolution and customer service skills. + Considerable planning, organizing, directing, and facilitating skills. Preferred Qualifications + Comprehensive campaign experience. + Considerable major gift and planned gift experience, preferably in a higher education setting. Proven track record of securing major and planned gifts. + Preference for CFRE (Certified Fundraising Executive) or CAP (Chartered Advisor in Philanthropy).
