**Job Title: Pipefitter**
**Job Description**
The pipefitter will be responsible for installing and maintaining a variety of ship piping systems, including steam, heat and power, hot water, hydraulic, air pressure, and oil lines. Utilizing blueprints, layouts, and work orders, the pipefitter will employ hand tools and shop machines to ensure proper installation and function of these systems.
**Responsibilities**
+ Plan layout of pipe sections, ensuring conformance to specifications and accommodating obstructions.
+ Cut and bore holes in bulkheads and decks for pipe installation.
+ Operate shop machines to cut and thread pipe and pipe fittings, including valves, traps, and thermostats.
+ Bend pipe to specified shapes using pipe-bending fixtures.
+ Bolt or weld brackets to support pipe systems.
+ Connect pipes to fixtures such as heat exchangers, laundry and galley equipment, pumps, tanks, and other ship equipment.
+ Repair, pack, and adjust valves.
+ Test installed systems for leaks to ensure compliance with specifications.
+ Set up work area with appropriate tools and materials in the shop or onboard the ship.
+ Perform related tasks as assigned.
**Essential Skills**
+ Proficiency in pipefitting, including bending and burning.
+ Ability to read and understand blueprints and spool sheets.
+ Knowledge of basic marine piping systems and military specifications.
+ Experience with silver brazing procedures.
+ Minimum of 3 years of experience in marine pipefitting.
**Additional Skills & Qualifications**
+ Eligible to return to work at NASSCO.
+ Flexible with 1st and 2nd shift availability.
+ Ability to work independently.
+ Proficient in fabrication, repair, installation, and testing of marine piping systems.

**Work Environment**
The role is based at the NASSCO yard, supporting the new construction of vessels. The work environment includes setting up work areas with necessary tools and materials, and involves hands-on tasks onboard ships.
**Job Type & Location**
This is a Contract to Hire position based out of San Diego, California.
**Pay and Benefits**
The pay range for this position is $30.00 - $42.00/hr.
