Responsible for providing radiation safety to all areas of diagnostic imaging and radiation oncology. Provides consultation on patient or personnel radiation exposure and radiation risk assessment, including fetal dose evaluation and uses CWS (clinical workstation) for post radiation exposure monitoring of patents with potential for radiation injury. Maintains all aspects of Radiation Oncology Department radiation safety practices including personnel exposure monitoring and reduction, equipment monitoring room shielding, brachytherapy source ordering, shipping, receiving and inventory, patient surveys, and regulatory compliance. Performs patient specific radiation physics consultations as requested by the Radiation Oncologists.
Principal Accountabilities:
1. Implements patient services within the department.
2. Maintains documentation for federal and state agencies and other accreditation bodies.
3. Acts as a consultant for all technical aspects within the department.
4. Conducts annually required radiation safety and regulatory compliance checks and performance evaluation of diagnostic imaging and ACR accreditation testing.
5. Assists the Radiation Safety Officer in maintaining oversight of all uses of ionizing radiation.
6. Ensures that federal and state regulations and appropriate radiation safety practices are followed.
7. Performs shielding designs and barrier protection surveys and conducts acceptance test on new equipment.
8. Provides diagnostic physics radiation services on a contractual basis to healthcare organizations.
9. Calibrates external beam treatment machines, radioactive sources and simulation equipment to maintain compliance with national standards, and implements all aspects of patient dosimetry.
10. Performs other related duties as assigned.
