About the Opportunity:We are seeking a Nurse Practitioner (NP) or Physician Assistant (PA) to join our Pain Medicine Division within the Department of Anesthesia. This is a collaborative, interdisciplinary service that addresses complex pain conditions through a biopsychosocial approach, providing both outpatient and inpatient care.
Key Responsibilities: Perform outpatient clinic visits for chronic, acute, and cancer-related pain conditions Participate in inpatient consultations and care coordination Assist with procedures and perform basic interventions (e.g., trigger point injections) Collaborate with physicians, psychologists, nursing staff, palliative care, surgery, and other services Educate patients and families about pain management strategies and treatment plans Contribute to quality improvement initiatives and documentation standards Minimum Qualifications:Required Education:
For Nurse Practitioners: Successful completion of an approved Nurse Practitioner training program that conforms to the Board of Registered Nursing standards; graduate of an accredited Nursing program required; Bachelor’s degree in Nursing preferred. For Physician Assistants: Successful completion of a Physician Assistant program of instruction in primary health care approved by the Physician Assisting Examining Committee; OR NCCPA for Physician's Assistant.Required Licenses/Certifications:
For Nurse Practitioners: Possession of a valid license to practice as a Registered Nurse and certification as a Nurse Practitioner issued by the California Board of Registered Nursing; Possession of a current Furnishing Number issued by the California Board of Registered Nursing AND Certification by the American Nurses Credentialing Center (ANCC) OR American Academy of Nurse Practitioners (AANP); OR Certification by the National Certification Corporation as a Women’s Health Care Nurse Practitioner (WHNP). For Physician Assistants: Possession of a valid Certificate as a Physician Assistant issued by the California Board of MedicalQuality Assurance. A valid Drug Enforcement Agency (DEA) Number AND Certification by the National Commission on Certification of Physician Assistants (NCCPA). Experience in pain medicine, anesthesia, palliative care, or primary care preferred New graduates with a strong interest in pain medicine are encouraged to applyPreferred Licenses/Certification: Dependent on area of specialty ACLS, ATLS, SART BLS - Basic Life Support Certification issued by the American Heart Association. PALS - Pediatric Advanced Life Support Certification- AHA American Heart Association (Required for Emergency Department or if overseeing or providing pediatric care on a regular basis).
