What you will be doing?
The Physician Assistant (PA) at Britelife Recovery plays a critical role in delivering high-quality medical care to patients undergoing detoxification and residential substance use treatment. Working under the supervision of the Medical Director, the PA provides medical assessments, prescribes and monitors medications, responds to crises, and collaborates with the multidisciplinary team to ensure comprehensive, patient-centered care. This position emphasizes both clinical excellence and compassionate support to promote safe detoxification and long-term recovery outcomes.
What tasks are required?
+ Conduct comprehensive medical assessments, i.e. admission histories and physical examinations of patients admitted for detoxification and residential treatment.
+ Prescribe, monitor, and adjust medications in accordance with state licensure and facility protocols.
+ Implement and manage withdrawal protocols and medication-assisted treatment (MAT), including anti-craving and relapse prevention medications.
+ Evaluate and manage withdrawal symptoms, intoxication, and medication side effects.
+ Provide emergency medical interventions following established protocols.
+ Maintain accurate and timely documentation in the electronic health record (EHR).
+ Participate in interdisciplinary treatment team conferences, admissions, and discharge planning.
+ Implement and manage withdrawal protocols and medication-assisted treatment (MAT), including anti-craving and relapse prevention medications.
+ Provide crisis management and support in collaboration with nursing and clinical staff.
+ Educate patients and families about medications, recovery processes, and health promotion.
+ Positively represent Britelife Recovery with patients, families, staff, and external partners.
+ Coordinate with external providers, specialists, or primary care physicians to ensure continuity of care post discharge.
+ Ensure adherence to professional standards, facility policies, and state/federal regulations.
+ Uphold confidentiality and HIPAA requirements at all times.
+ Maintain compliance with regulatory, licensing, and accreditation standards (e.g., audits, utilization review, quality assurance).
+ Participate in performance improvement, quality assurance, and compliance activities.
+ Special Projects, on call and other duties as assigned.
What we need from you?
+ Complete all annual education requirements.
+ Maintain active state Physician Assistant license and DEA registration in good standing.
+ Demonstrate ethical conduct and uphold organizational mission and values.
+ Report to work on time and as scheduled, wearing identification as required.
+ Required: Current Physician Assistant license in the state of practice; current DEA registration.
+ Preferred: Experience working in detoxification, residential treatment, or behavioral health settings.
+ Familiarity with ASAM criteria and levels of care strongly preferred.
+ Proficiency with EHR systems and basic computer applications.
+ Strong clinical assessment, critical thinking, and decision-making abilities.
+ Ability to identify and manage substance use withdrawal symptoms and complications.
+ Knowledge of medication-assisted treatment (MAT) and substance use disorder interventions.
+ Effective verbal and written communication skills.
+ Ability to educate patients, families, and staff regarding addiction medicine and recovery.
+ Capacity to remain calm and effective in crisis situations.
+ Ability to lift up to 25 pounds.
+ Ability to walk up and down stairs during emergency drills or situations.
+ Ability to maintain composure in a fast-paced environment with patients experiencing withdrawal, mental health issues, or co-occurring conditions.
+ Ability to adhere to infection control and safety protocols, including use of PPE, and manage exposure risks sociated with handling biological specimens or hazardous materials.
+ The PA will work in a 24-hour treatment facility that includes both detox and residential patients.
+ Exposure to patients with substance use disorders, mental health concerns, and medical comorbidities is expected.
+ Requires the ability to manage high-stress situations with professionalism.
+ Schedules will be determined by facility needs. This role may require evenings, weekends, or on-call hours to ensure continuity of patient care in a 24-hour treatment setting.
+ While some flexibility in scheduling is possible, the PA will adhere to a shift schedule approved by both employee and supervisor.
