Physical Therapist Resident (NHRMC Only)

The team member will use Novant Health’s First Do No Harm (NHFDNH) safety behaviors/error prevention tools and high reliability strategies as appropriate to ensure a safe, remarkable patient experience. 52–55-week Residency Position The physical Therapy Resident provides skilled physical therapy services consistent with licensure as part of an interdisciplinary treatment team. The Physical Therapy Resident will provide clinical services for assigned area(s), optimizing the quality of patient care under the supervision of a preceptor/mentor. The resident will be a self-directed, independent, motivated learner as guided by the Residency program director (RPD). Examples of major learning and developmental activities include: clinical mentorship through direct patient care, provide education for patients, caregivers, peers, and entry-level DPT students, participate in clinical research, and develop and implement a health equity project, along with successful completion of all didactic course work. The resident acts in accordance with current policies and procedures. Responsibilities Essential Functions • Provision of Rehabilitative Care: Delivers care that is consistent with the physical therapy practice act in the appropriate state and adheres to APTA Code of Ethics. Completes patient evaluations and treatments independently while maintaining patient safety. Requires infrequent guidance/mentoring for complex or non-routine patients. Appropriately seeks guidance and assistance when necessary. Independently establishes / implements treatment goals and plans based on patient input and evaluation and assessment results. Reassesses outcomes and modifies goals and plans to meet changing needs of the patient. Schedules patient activities according to patient individual needs. Demonstrates technical competencies and job knowledge involving unusual or infrequent circumstances. Appropriately delegates tasks to support personnel. • In addition to following all Novant Health Policies and Procedures, residents are expected to adhere to partnering residency program’s resident handbook/resident policies. Residents should progress in clinical competencies throughout the 52–55-week experience, with the ultimate goal of reaching the level of expert clinician in the majority of patient care areas and diagnosis. • Documentation: Documentation is timely, legible, accurate, consistent with established procedures, and inclusive of evaluation, assessment/reassessment, goals, plan, response to interventions, and discharge planning needs as permitted by licensure. • Communication: Communicates with patients, families, and visitors in a caring and empathetic way. Provides timely and accurate information to all health care team members involved in the care of the patients, both within and outside of the organization. Qualifications 4 Year / Bachelors Degree Required Graduate from an accredited PT program Experience Years of Experience Required/Preferred Description Preferred Preferred candidate will have had clinical rotations or experience in an inpatient and outpatient setting including patient diagnoses in residency concentration (i.e. neuro, ortho, etc.).
