Salary: $60,000 Minimum

Civil Service Title: Physical Therapist
Minimum Requirements:
EITHER:
(A) Possession of a valid license and currently registered by the New York State Education Department as a Physical Therapist; OR,
(B) Possession of a Limited Permit to practice Physical Therapy issued by the New York State Education Department.
Desired Qualifications:
Experience in working with students with disabilities and understanding of child development preferred;
Certification in CPI and/or TCI preferred.
Position Summary/Responsibilities:
Performs physical therapy procedures upon the written order or referral of a licensed physician, physician’s assistant or nurse practitioner;
Evaluates and orders appropriate functional and mobility aids such as wheelchairs, ambulation aides and bathroom equipment, and provides training in their use;
Participates with other personnel in case conferences to discuss and formulate students’ total care plans;
Records documents according to NYS laws, Medicaid, and District policies, on charts, physical therapy evaluations, re-evaluations, progress notes, consultation and discharge summaries;
Consults as needed/requested with colleagues and administrators regarding students’ medical status;
Provides training as appropriate to staff and families;
Maintains physical therapy equipment;
Thorough knowledge of the principles, techniques and practices of physical therapy;
Knowledge of the operation and maintenance of apparatus and equipment used in physical therapy;
Knowledge of pathological conditions and socio-economic factors affecting a student's disabilities;
Knowledge of community resources applicable to physical therapy;
Ability to train teachers and support staff and monitor their performance of therapy directed tasks;
Ability to effectively communicate orally and via documentation;
Ability to establish and maintain effective professional relationships;
Physical condition commensurate with the demands of the position;
Attending multidisciplinary team meetings;
Maintaining daily schedule per district guidelines;
Pursuing professional development and life-long learning;
Other duties as assigned.
