Job Description
The primary role of a Phlebotomist I is to assist with various tasks, troubleshoot issues, provide training, and offer workflow recommendations. This position requires the individual to collect and store specimens according to established procedures and explain the process of venipuncture or other specimen collection methods clearly and courteously.
ResponsibilitiesPerform blood draws, label specimens, centrifuge specimens, and record maintenance data.Decontaminate and update patient information.Collect and store specimens following established protocols.Explain venipuncture and other specimen collection processes clearly and courteously.Demonstrate techniques using straight and butterfly needles.Understand and execute physicians' orders accurately.Match laboratory requisition forms to specimen tubes.Label, centrifuge, split, and freeze specimens as required by test orders.Ensure test requisitions or computer labels match scripts 100%.Package specimens for transport, storing them at required temperatures.Comply with OSHA and DEP regulations.Attend annual department trainings.Answer telephone calls and provide laboratory results to inquiries.Essential SkillsValid Phlebotomy certification for the state of employment.Minimum of 6 months' experience performing venipunctures in a fast-paced lab or hospital setting.Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite.High School Diploma or GED.0-2 years of related experience.Additional Skills & QualificationsExperience with pediatric and geriatric patients is advantageous.Knowledge in laboratory procedures and medical terminology is beneficial.Work Environment

Pay and BenefitsThe pay range for this position is $17.00 - $19.00/hr.
